Describe your game jam experience in a haiku.
It's been on my mind
Writing poetry is hard
But it's hella worth
Was your game made entirely during the jam period?
I had a draft of the song (chords, arps) before the jam started

Very interesting! At first I was a little thrown off by the lack of scoring/combos/other gamey stuff, but towards the end I started hitting the notes at my own pace, kind of just making my own music. I always love that feeling in rhythm games when you switch from tapping notes because you're told to, to tapping notes to make your own tune as if you're "singing along," so I really appreciate the freedom you give the player with their timing.
it's a different (and divisive) approach for sure!
Everything that could be said has been below so Ill just say it was really fun as most rhythm games are but I will reiterate as the main issue for me was scoring since I like to know / beat scores. Well done.
fair enough :)
Hell yeah rhythm game representation! It's the genre I play most often. This is more or less osu! with FPS style 3D aim. I like that clicking on the circles produces hitsounds that fit with the song. It always feels more immersive. The moving circles was also creative, requiring you to have even sharper reflexes.
I think my only criticism is that I don't really know whether I hit it at the "right" time - you did mention this in another comment that there is no "scoring", but even so, I couldn't find the "rhythm" aspect to it. I tried to hit to the beat of the background music, I can't really tell if I'm on beat because the music is designed so that no matter when you hit it, it'll never sound "off" (at least not in my experience). That's honestly cool and fits the zen mode, but I'm used to having judgements made very clear in the game. Even just the circle looking different when it's supposed to be hit would be useful.
Still, really cozy, and more relaxing compared to the more adrenaline based rhythm games out there. Very creative take on the theme! I also really liked the music - whatever effect you put over the vocals to make it sound slightly robotic, it was pretty cool.
Thank you! Each circle flashes a little when it's supposed to be hit, but it's difficult to see when you're playing. I think you're right that I could have made it more clear--either that or design the game so that there's no "correct" rhythm to begin with. I made the vocals using a vocoder, it uses a recording of my voice to modulate a synth instrument to sound like the synth is singing :)
Well that was an experience! Nice how you handled the camera movement and clicking the circles with the music. Never seen this before so thats very nice!
well done!
Ty!
Thank you!
You're right about it being simple, but I avoided punishment on purpose. I wanted the soothing sounds and visuals you get in response to hitting a note to serve as an intrinsic motivation to play well, rather than an extrinsic scoring system. No score, only vibes :)
