Description
Really wanted to join so cooked this up in a few hours. Was imagining a dripping wet, cyberpunk hellscape a la Blade Runner. With off-kilter, metallic percussion and a ton of distortion used to ramp up the tension of the coming storm. Enjoy!

it's eclectic and funky! i did get surprised by that one snare at 0:16 (on the upbeat before you do the noise crash) so you could have that very first one be a little gentler. nonetheless i must stress i really do like this percussion. like a lot. i love blade runner and i love this... especially the end, where you really get to show off the percussion together... you should totally make more songs using this set of sounds!! i think you could really cook something up with them

Thank you! glad you appreciated the vibe, I feel like we went in similar directions with this one and I really enjoyed your track, too

I like how you chose to convey the theme and I love the distortions you used. I can fully imagine the environment you were trying to create, and I could see this fitting very well into a cinematic!

For a bit of criticism, I like what you did with the metallic hit, the rhythm you used does especially well for building tension, but I personally find the stereo positioning of it a little disorienting on headphones. I think there's multiple approaches you could take (depending on if you'd rather emphasize balance or emphasize panning), but overall a good option could maybe be an EQ cut around 350-600 hz (and possibly 700-1200hz) to ease the louder areas while still keeping the intensity and the width. But also, I want to respect that you didn't have much time to make this track so there's bound to be things that don't get addressed, and I think overall you did well achieving what you wanted to create and I especially like how you conveyed intensity here!

Hey! Thanks so much for taking the time to write such a detailed, thoughtful comment :)

By "disorienting", do you mean that it sounded too wide? Definitely will look into fiddling with the EQ to ease the louder areas, thanks for the tips!

Yes, I would like to say the wideness, but more so the volume of the metallic hit at that wideness. I do want to emphasize subjectiveness too though, since I tend to like having my percussions pretty narrow. I am happy if you've found some of this helpful though!

Ok bro, you take up so much room/space with these spacey synths at the beginning rolling in slowly making one pay attention to the fq given but then you just slam into the ears at 0:17 with bunch of 100% volume no reverb intourface sounds. The idea is nice tho.

Developer

For better or worse, the idea was to make the "thunderstrike" as jarring as possible (IE the contrast you mention between the verb-y synths and the quite dry percussion). But I think I got too used to the track and forgot maybe HOW big the contrast was for that first hit xD

Very cool, visceral percussion in this one. I felt the "chopper" pad in the first half could've been decrescendoed soon after the arp was introduced (and shortly after it returns at 2:00) so it's not competing for the listener's attention with the more dynamic parts.

Developer

thanks for the feedback (really liked your track btw). yeah, on a repeat listen, I totally agree. sometimes when I lay a drone down, I just forget about it xD but the high end of the drone is getting in the way when all the parts come in :)
