The game looks amazing (I played on PC VR with postprocessing on). Even UI looks great which is very rare for game jam entries 👏🏻

Attacking enemies with your hands is fun but what I liked the most is flying around as a bat 🦇😂

The look of it is entirely JKLabs' doing, also the UI.   There was a bit of a hiccup integrating my Cinemachine powered dual camera set-up into his lit/optimized levels, as Cinemachine apparently handles post-processing differently...  Also, whatever little frame-rate loss we suffered is also due to my less-than-optimal characters and physics.  I feel lucky to have JK Labs as a collaborator and teammate.

Thank you for the kind words.  What I'm calling the 'Swarm' mechanic was so much fun to unlock, and I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Thanks for the comments all! Unfortunately I did kinda off drop Toreador in the Deepend, I had a pre planned holiday so was away for the last 2 days of the jam, We would normally Combine our efforts and work through any kinks, I too as mentioned play Seated so I've just had my first go on this version and struggled a little, V2 will have smooth and snap turn (Obvs doesn't count to the jam)

I done the UI design, and environments only. So massive Kudos to Toreador he done all the attacks, bat cloud, cinemachine, physics,, ai, music, sfx and then had to put this all together on his own, in 48 hours! (thanks man) I try and keep October free next year :)

I appreciate you addressing our challenges, but I prefer embracing the original over the popular, and will always maintain this stance.  We know we made this thing in the time allotted, so thank you for what you were able to contribute.  I am proud of what we've made, sir.

I've never sat down to play VR.  The body needs to move to believe.  To each their own.

Some truly superb things about this one. There's a lot going on! The look is great. Some of the features were pretty shocking to be included in a jam entry. Sadly I can't play standing up, and the smooth turn in the menus got me motion sick. The turning was turned off in the game, which can't work for me when plugged in. I got motion sick when looking in the wrong direction while a bat. Even so, I think I won, even while sick, although nothing told me I won. :)  Great job.

Developer

Thanks for giving it a go! I'll add both turning option to our update :)

Yes we did talk about what our end game would be, endless wave spawner, breaking out, sunlight crashing and killing the player etc, I think a health Bar, timer and kill counter and some kinda death/lose sequence would be beneficial.

Wowsa there is a ton of things going on here! It's impressive how much you got done in time for this jam.

Let's start with the Good :

  • The Vampire's Lair - The look of this entire thing is great. I'm feeling like a vampire straight out of the Blade universe. The color scheme is perfect and the lighting is great.
  • Variety of Movement - I'm really impressed with all the different types of movement in this game. From flying around as a bat to watching my vampire self in 3rd person as he attacks one of the intruders. There are mechanics in this that I seriously do not know how to implement and I find them fun and impressive as hell!
  • Inverse Kinematics - This super surprised me. Not only did you fit everything else in this game, but you also snuck in some inverse kinematics! It felt great having a body!
  • Great UI - UI will always win me over. I love creative ways of presenting menus to players and I really enjoyed yours. There was a bit of clunkiness in selecting things, but besides that, it was gorgeous!
  • I Ripped Someone's Head Off - Not much else to add. I just enjoyed that. I guess I would have liked to pick it up and throw it at someone, but ripping off someone's head was good enough for me!

Shrimple Notes To Consider :

  • Scope Things Down - I appreciate the ambitiousness of this project, but I think this game could have easily been game jam perfection if it was scoped down a little bit and polished more. Some of the mechanics didn't work all of the time and it feels like if the game was scoped down a little bit, other mechanics really could have shined with polish.
  • No Turning - There was no snap or smooth turning in the game and it needed it. I would come out of bat for numerous times and be flipped around. I ended up spinning in circle in my house trying to get oriented again 🤣

This entry is ambitious and nails almost everything it set out to do. There are so many impressive technical feats thrown in here that I honestly don't know how you fit them in within a week time period. Super impressive! Thank you so much for joining this jam and giving us this wonderful entry!

Developer

Thanks for playing Shrimpy :)

As mention Toreador is the brains behind the attacking and having the ability to pull people heads off!

thanks for hosting the Jam, I'm sure we will be back for the next one! ChristmasJam?? ;)

Good solid entry to the Jam this one...

I can see a lot has gone into this, so kudos for that!

I was a little confused what was going on at first, but after a few play throughs I got the idea. I didn't think I could attack the guys as I had no weapon, but it seems you can melee them - and there's this 3rd person mode to special attacks.

I found the light shards from the windows had collision on them, so it was annoying that I couldn't run through the light, so I got stuck on them sometimes.

I killed all the enemies, but it seemed like there was no results or conclusion. I tried going out of one of the doors, but they didn't open, so I'm guessing there's no end to it unless you die.

All in all, great job! Lots of effort certainly went into that and it's a good solid game. Loved the bats flying around too, nice touch!

Developer

Thanks for having a go and the feedback.

The light shards had colliders on them to deal some damage, this is my fault I set this up before going away and don't think I mentioned it on Trello :/

Same the doors I animated them and added a smoke effect for the enemy's to enter but alas this was lost somewhere on Trello, Some of these issues we will fix in a V2.

As mentioned we did talk about health, or how to end the level but unfortunately we ran out time.
