I really liked the mechanic of "throwing" the character away, and I also liked the exploration system that reveals and fills the map on the side, it reminded me of Terraria.

Developer

I didn’t exactly think about how the map was similar to Terraria’s when making it, but yeah they’re pretty similar

Thanks!

Really nice effects (the background, the lighting system) and player feedback, like the triangle that appears when preparing to move, makes it feel super responsive.

Simple but lovely artstyle too! A bit more interaction would've been nice, like enemies or at least some text appearing when encountering the other sub or the pink dude, but I understand there are some severe time constraints lol

Overall very enjoyable :)

Developer

Thank you! Yeah if this was a longer jam I’d absolutely add something like that.

I had fun playing yours :-) It's relaxing! Although, I would have prefered WSDA controls instead. Also: I started exploring the edges first. After uncovering ~60% of the map, the indicator said I explored 100%. Was that intentional?

Developer

That wasn’t intentional, but I did want to give a bit of extra leeway to the player for the 100% map coverage. I didn’t have enough time to test it right at the end, and it turned out I was a bit too generous with that. Thanks for your feedback!

The art is cute (and Sonic-esque with the checkered ground pattern - liked that). The lighting work also looks good.

Thank you!

The atmosphere and feel in this game is great! This style fits very well and I like that you have developed an artstyle and are reusing this character for your games. Very cool!

Developer

Thank you!

Yeah I reused that character a lot, because it’s pretty much as simple as you can get, a circle with eyes looking around.

Very nicely done, feel like it could have used some kind of dynamic obstacle or threat though. Feels a bit too empty. What's there is nicely refined though.

Developer

Yeah 3 hours isn’t a lot of time to work on this so it feels very empty. If I had more time I’d definitely include more things to see (maybe an abandoned underwater base? definitely some sort of plant life though to make it more varied.) I wouldn’t include any sort of threat though as that’s not really my type of game. Thank you anyways!

You've included a lot of really cool bits of polish like the transition from the menu to the game and the mini map. I'm also always impressed when a game made in such a short time has sound effects. It would have been nice for there to be more of an objective, even if it was just a win screen when you reach 100% exploration. It feels a bit more like a character controller demo than an actual game.

Developer(+1)

Thank you! The sound effects and the polish are what I spent most of my 3 hours on, so I’m glad it’s noticeable.

I’d also like to mention that there is a win screen, if you go back to the submarine after exploring everything then you get said win screen. I did write it in some text at the start, but that’s pretty easily missable since it disappears fast and I didn’t make it very clear that you needed to return to the submarine for the win screen.
