How did you choose to implement the Theme: Haunting Melody in your game?
Honestly I just tried to make my music as creepy as possible, because I just did a music based game for a jam right before this. So the theme isn't very intertwined with the gameplay, but I think the music is sufficiently haunting.

Did you implement any of the optional Bonus Challenges, and if so, which ones?
No

I haven't gotten through chapter 3 yet but I'm determined!

Developer

Thanks, I almost made time to play your game even though I struggle to play other people's horror games, your title image was really good. It's a bit late now but I'll give your game a play or two.

I haven't got past the spectral hands section. In that one, it seemed like the hands move way too fast, you can avoid them for a few minutes and then you suddenly get caught out of nowhere. Not to mention that with the mazelike corridors, it's very difficult to figure out where you are supposed to go.

And if you get caught, you have to start the game (or atleast that chapter) all over again, so it's very frustrating as well. If checkpoints can't be implemented, maybe some HP mechanic would be a good idea.

The only thing that's really needed to be added when it comes to the visuals  are some kind of movement animations for the protagonist, it feels weird seeing that sprite slide all around the place. Otherwise, the game looks good and the theme seemed to be implemented in a very nice way with that piano!

Developer

I'm pretty sure that as long as you never stop moving they shouldn't be able to grab you.

Yeah, seems like it, but whenever I ran too close to a wall or interacted with that crate or ran into a dead end, a momentary stop was enough for a game over and then you need to replay it from the very start of the game. I'll see if I can get through it later. Looks like an interesting game.

Creepy and fun game! The gameplay works really well and is both scary and interesting to explore everything.

I'm glad you enjoyed it, it's my first horror game, so I wasn't sure if it was very creepy, I play tested it too much to be scared of it, except for the last chapter which still scared me sometimes.

Was creepy music and I liked the dither lighting effect and colour choice for the game quite effective.

Developer

Thanks, I thought it worked pretty well, if you use unity the lighting was honestly just their 2D lighting package which is free. I just told it to make the shadows pitch black. I couldn't add wall textures because of that though.

Ha! That was a really cool experience. Loved the light system and how the creepy piano dominated everything. Great fit for the theme.

Thanks, I was a bit concerned about the theme because the piano just disappears in chapter 2 and 3. I tried to keep the music creepy though.
