This was super cute!

I found that the stairs felt a little sticky, and occasionally experienced some jitter when standing still. I would have enjoyed being able to jump while running, but otherwise had a fun time.

Hope you had a positive experience using Godot for 3D, and thanks for doing a Linux build (it ran fine!) :)

P.S. There's a typo in your cover image!

Thanks! I really appreciate the feedback! It was definitely a positive experience overall, I'm glad to hear the linux build ran well!

I'll definitely be putting more work into that 3rd person controller before using it in another game. The jitter and sticky stairs is actually why I disabled jumping while running actually! Originally I had it enabled but if you jumped while running on the stairs it would rocket the player right into the ceiling!

Thanks for the tip on the cover image, took me a few minutes to spot it even after you pointed it out tbh! That dyslexia, gets me every time.
I think I may just leave it as is at this point, as a testament to just how janky this first go at 3D really was.

Don't worry! It took me a little while to spot it as well after it was pointed out to me. That's typos for you!

I can understand how fighting the physics system would lead away from allowing jumping while running/on stairs/etc.. It's always a tricky thing to manage when using a general purpose physics engine for specific-case implementations.

Super cute! Reminds me of simpler times with shockwave games I’d play in my browser. Nice job getting 3D animations to work, I don’t know where I’d start with that.

Thanks! I was thinking along the lines of knock off space banjo-kazooie while I was putting it together.

I'm afraid I can't take credit for the animations, that's all Quaternius' work. They work the same as in 2D though, just bone rotations instead of sprite frames. It's all run through an AnimationPlayer node. The PC's movements are just those animations blended together with an AnimationTree node and a little state machine in the controller.

Neat game! Love the bgm choice. My only issue is you could release the mouse when paused/finished. It was a bit hard to close the game. Other than that I actually like the aestethics as well. Also, you can consider Linux tested! (Played on Zorin OS)

Thanks a bunch!
I'll make a note to add mouse releases for both of those when I push an update. I'm thinking continuing to play with, and expand, this game as a testing ground for other ideas before building anything larger with 3D in Godot. Testing the art style was one of the big things on my list so I'm glad you like it! I'm really happy with how the main character renders and want use the same technique in a more involved game down the line.

Good works on creating this whole 3D scene. I will now have the background music in my head for the next few hours :P

Thanks! It was fun putting it together and the visuals turned out better than I hoped they would. Godot's 3D engine actually has a fair bit more flexibility than I was expecting going in too. I'm thinking I'll either break stuff into small scenes like this or wait for the optimizations they're working on in 4.0 before I try making anything bigger in 3D though.
