I love a good Lovecraft adaptation. The presentation is super stylish--I love the texture of the linework, the hand-drawn feel, and the desaturated palette. The point-and-click portions worked very well. The tape player was very well implemented and fun to use (I did notice one bug: If you insert a new tape without hitting Stop Listening, it will show the text of the new tape but play the audio of the old tape). Lovecraft's prose is hard to read, but your voice cast is tackling it like champs. My main issue is that the instructions were so leading--the repeated prompts to use your left mouse button to click on things, to look around for useful objects, to listen to the tapes, etc. (Then again, I could well believe that you put those in because you had players who just genuinely didn't try to click on anything.)

Pretty good alpha version! Could use some sort of fast forward or skip for the tapes, and I couldn’t grasp the context of the tapes too well but that might just be me. But the visuals are nice and I like the gameplay!

Developer

There actually is a fast forward button on the cassette player as well as a rewind and pause button. Yeah, those aren't just for show lol.

You said you couldn't understand the context of the tapes too well? Could you elaborate? I'm compiling a list of feedback for our programmer to tinker with over the weekend.

Thanks for playing!

Great alpha! Love seeing a take on this story from a detective/officer's POV. That was interesting. I really like the interactivity throughout the game. The voice actors did a great job too 👍

If we're this solid as an alpha, imagine what this project will look like with some polish

I'm not a horror fan, but I liked this game! I thought the music and sound effects were very good, and a special nod to the VAs who portrayed their characters well despite Lovecraft's somewhat clunky writing. I would have liked a way to mark what tapes had been already played--the different colors did help as well.

Developer

I asked our programmer to mark the tapes played as well, however we had to crunch to get this project out in time. But you're absolutely right. That is confusing.

This is a really good game, the build up to the horrors on the cthulu mythos payed off from the beginning till the end. The gameplay is neat without any bugs and the characters are sympathetic which is added in the voice acting.

"Oh good, he didn't play this on an ultrawide monitor"

Glad you like it. The slow burn was a concern for us. A lot of people dislike slow burn stories, so we got to go all out without giving it away.  I was hoping everyone would laugh at how derpy Detective Moore looks until the evidence locker appears lol

One of the hidden gems in this jam! A very polished game inspired by the stories of HP Lovecraft. It's like Carmen Sandiego meets murder mystery/hidden object game. The casette tape recorder is a very neat idea added with the point and click mechanics. Oh! And that ending...I feel bad for the characters especially to Mr. Warren. Foooool!!!!! T_T

EDIT: The voice overs are superb too. I just found the recordings of  some tapes were too long for me. But all in all its a very well thought and a polished game!

Visual novel that started out with a great art, voice overs, and music. You're definitely up for a good expectation of the game! Of course, as games that are made for a month long jam, it's inevitable to see that it needs more development in a few areas. Overall, love the art and the story of a Lovecraft adaptation.

the art was good, you can see the subtle changes in the environment, and he sound design was also solid. the voice actors really portrayed their roles well.  In another note, the tapes should be identifiable if it was already played, to avoid some confusion, also,  the tape player, should have some darker buttons (I thought it was not working because it was grayed out lol). hoping some freedom of movements and not dictated by the tutorial.  The game won't let you proceed if you haven't finished listening to the tapes, which is fine, but I hope hope I can do more than just sit around and listen. (when I fast forward the tapes it was not acknowledged as a completed action)

Overall, for a game that has been developed in just a month  it was good, the gameplay, the voic acting and the art was good!  Hoping for more improvements and content!!!

Appreciate the criticism. Unfortunately we could not get out the "perfect" build before the deadline, so we cut our losses and uploaded what we could. Crunch time is never fun... But I'll be sure to let our programmerknow what you've brought up. He was itching to polish this game after it was uploaded
