Title
Protect the Black King

Description
I was inspired by the chess piece. I wanted to incorporate as many chess figures as possible into my music.

The music kicks off with the Black King's loneliness as he realizes that the war is coming to an end. But this was without counting on the Black Knight's devotion. He sets off on his steed to turn the tide of war.

He meets the bishop hiding in the chapel. The clergyman explains to the knight that they are the last survivors of their clan. His speech is tinged with fear and despair.

The Black Knight keeps the faith and crosses the field of corpses of his former allies devoured by the Rooks.

Filled with determination, he fights and defeats the White Pawns despite their numbers. The last man standing is none other than the White King, imploring this great warrior to let him live. Mercifully, the Black Knight grants him the stalemate.. The Black Knight's exploits spread across the land and peace returned.

But only for a while...

Great, as Selkione songs usually are. I really love the little details! My only small grime is the organ sound, as Redline also mentioned.

seamless transitions between sections and different voices...sounds really good!

Organ part at ~1:20 has some highs mixing issue (at least for my ears lmao).
Also are those horse sounds in the rythm of triplets, or am I just overthinking them?

Developer

Thanks for your feedback.

Well done, I chopped up the sample of the gallop to match the rhythm in triplet mode.

You had already found that the treble was too sharp on the RMMC#1. So this time I was really careful. I put some EQ on the organ, especially on the mid-high and highs, to reduce the instrument's power.

Once again, I didn't succeed :D

I'll keep working to improve it.

So beautiful and elegant pieces! I love both of them, but if I had to pick one, I prefer #1

Developer

Thank you :)

But the #1 was for the previous Redline’s Challenge.

I didn’t want to create a new project each time.

Stellar stuff, really enjoyed the track!

A beautiful composition, good sounds, good mix. It's all well done. The horse hooves sound is a great idea, I like the usage of "diegetic" sounds, although it's a bit weird in the mix (it's very wide, maybe it should have just been panned to one side?). Hard to make any other critique, it's a very solid track

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the constructive feedback

I made several attempts to integrate diegetic noise and the ping-pong delay wasn't necessarily the best solution.

Glad you liked it though.

Protect the Black King: Off to a very strong start with those synth sounds you used, and I love the switch between the two chords! The piano’s integration into the following section of the track serves as a nice foundation that I really enjoyed listening to. I love how around 1:33 there’s a raven sound mixed with what sounds almost like the clip-clop of a horse’s hooves, which I assume represents the king’s journey across the field of corpses. The gentle ending fits perfectly with the end of the story you’ve written out.

All-in-all you’ve done a really nice job telling a story through your track! :)

(and I love your version of the artwork)
