Title
Venturing Out

Description
First of all, I made chiptune. not only it is my favorite genre of music, but synths were the cheapest to use, so I could add a lot of different sections with unique instruments.

For the theme of the song I got inspired a little bit by the optional theme of the jam and originally went for more of a roadtrip vibe, but the amount of guitars and basses I wanted meant I had to go into debt, so I returned to chiptune, though I would definitely would love to remake it into a soft rock / calm song.

Instruments used
Budget: 15 coins

Background ambiance - 3
Triangle - (-1)
Drumkit - 4
Synth (triangle wave) - 8 (for 5 synths)
- Synth (Bell path)
- Synth (Square 1)
- Synth (Square 2)
- Synth (Pad)

Remaining coins: 1
(let's pretend that last coin was the budget for the video or something)

The first part is very good, good variations, setting up the instruments, but at 1'23" it becomes brilliant. I love the two synths a sixth(?) apart. It sounds so good. And just when I think we're at the climax of the music, you throw in a banger: from 1'48" to 2'00" this passage is fantastic, you could have made it last twice as long and kept building on it.

In any case, bravo. When I listen to your first compositions and juxtapose them with this one, I find it hard to believe I'm listening to the same artist, you've progressed so much. I'm glad I got to know you through all those jams.

Thank you so much!

I owe some of my progress to you actually, you always give such detailed feedback on how to improve, so thanks for that!

There is so much I want to do thanks to learning, like learning an actual instrument!

Glad I got to know you too, let’s hope there are more jams were we both participate in!

Nice use of synths!

Thanks!

This song has a really nice vibe, and the mixing is well done. At first I would've said the melodies lacked structure and kept repeating, but really it was done in a way that fit the feeling and I found it enjoyable.

Developer

Thank you, I tried to make a balance between repeating some sections enough so they are familiar and feel like they belong, but not repeat too much to make it boring.

This sounds like a really fun action/adventure rpg track as you journey from town to town! I liked it a lot! :)

I love the beginning: it definitely fits the theme and sounds great! I love (and I mean love) nature sounds, especially combined with music. Also, I think you might be my favorite chiptune artist; many people make chiptune that sounds ugly and old to me, but your chiptune just sounds good (even back at Town Music Jam #2). Great entry :D

Thank you! Coming from an artist I respect a lot in this jam(s) (and in general) means a lot to me! Seriously, “I think you might be my favorite chiptune artist” is something that means a lot to me.

I still think my TMJ2 song isn’t as great as it could be, but thank you for the support, it makes me want to improve more with each jam!

I’m hyped to see what you made too! *(When I get the chance, as of writing this message I’m not able to rate songs yet). *

On an unrelated note that you might find interesting, I’m also making another chiptune track with nature sounds with a similar vibe to this submission (not for a Jam, just a passion project), if you’re interested I can message you when it’s done :)

Ooh, I'd love to hear more chiptune+nature combinations! If you're willing to share it when you're ready (no rush), feel free to send it to me :D

Such a chill piece! It could just be the animation talking, but it sounds perfect for exploring on a bike especially with the triangle acting as a bike bell. I also like the drum choice, it's got that softness that adds a lot to the mood.

Developer(+1)

I didn’t thought of the triangle like that, but it makes a lot of sense! I did based the animation on the general vibe of the song but didn’t consider that.

Thank you!

Nice chiptune. Love the ambience introduce in the second part.

Thank you!

Nice chiptune! I love the vibe of the whole thing, and the background ambience + animation is a great touch.

Developer

Thank you! I worked hard on this one!

Background ambience was 3 coins not 5. I got really confused because looking at your totals I was like, "your totally over budget what do you mean 1 remaining coin" so I pulled up the spreadsheet to cross reference and noticed the difference. I would recommend changing it so people don't get confused like I did.

I liked the animation it was very cute and the song was really nice too!

Developer (1 edit)

I didn’t noticed the error when submitted, thanks, I already fixed it.

Also thank you, I’m glad you liked the song!
