I really love the soundtrack! As for playability, I didn't think it was much of a puzzle until I couldn't get out of the first room. Kept trying and figured it out. LoL great subject matter too. Love little Celeste!

Thank you! I really love making music. Thanks for being patient while figuring out how to escape the room. It is definitely a puzzle, which is why the room is very small. I'm glad Celeste is a good communicator too. She is really good at letting me know that she wants me, more petting, some treats or escape! :D

Short and sweet. I love the artwork and retro RPG vibes this gives, and reading Celeste's dialog for all the random little items in the room was fun.

Also, I like how you even included a picture of a real kitten sitting on a throne at the end, that was a nice touch! Did you pose and shoot that yourself, or was it a lucky internet find?

Overall, nice entry!

Thank you! It was a lot of fun working on the game. Celeste has a lot to say about her items; try interacting with them more than once. ;)

Her majesty's photograph was real, but the red throne chair was a composite of another photograph using GIMP. I had a lot of fun taking pictures, and this one was the most dynamic.

Thank you again!

Thank you! My wife and I created a game that was cute because there are many people who love cats. We also love cats, so it was easy for this project to gain momentum during its development. What would a cat do if left in a room by itself? What conversations would it think aloud? What art or music should we create to convey this cat's adventure? It was a lot of fun working on the story and game assets. Thanks for your comment!

So cool and I think that it's a lot of work behind this game using that development environment. I liked a lot the background music!

Developer

Thank you! The work behind this game using the EasyRPG game engine was very difficult. Many functions and implementations were not yet added. I spent some time cataloging which features were functional, faulty or unavailable. I tested the features (and game debugging) using PPSSPP and my PSP 1000.

I love composing music, and write the melodies as part journaling (life events) and (without words, yet a distinct dialect) a conversation with God. This was written using FL Studio and Z3ta+ VST plug-in. You can listen to more of these at http://orbital-dreams.com

tried playing and it crashed goign into a menu

Developer

Thank you for letting me know about the menu crashing. The game engine has a hardcoded absolute location, and it does crash when the assets are not available/wrong location. (ie: database, map files, title screen images, ect.) The easyrpg engine requires the game in ms0.

Hardware PSP ms0:/PSP/GAME/easyrpg

Place a copy of the game in the PPSSPP's game directory for ms0.

PPSSPP in Windows
%USERPROFILE%/Documents/PPSSPP/PSP/GAME/easyrpg

PPSSPP on Linux
~/.config/ppsspp/psp/game/easyrpg

hi, yeah its at this location
\PSP\GAME\Kitty Must Escape

will i need to rename it or will it just go with any name?

Developer

Inside the folders "Kitty Must Escape > PSP > GAME" there is the folder "easyrpg" . Move that folder to your /PSP/GAME directory.

I’m getting a “Could not find executable ms0:” message when trying to load into PPSSPP

Ok that fixed it! The game felt very polished, but the fancy rpg systems and menus left me kind of disappointed that they weren’t used. Implementing a full rpg with a battle system during the jam would have been very impressive and a lot of work, so I understand why it’s not there.

I think a simple rpg about the mundane life of a cat would be cool though if you ever decide to go through with it
