This is really cool! I have wanted to make something like that for some time but struggled to think of a good way to generate hairstyles in 3D; maybe 2D was the way all along.
I would be interested in learning more about how it works. I am guessing there are a few different "hair bundle" shapes that can be spawned in groups at various spots along the head outline?
Thanks! Yes, it works exactly as you described: a couple of "hair bundle" shapes, three zones where they can grow, and a few simple parameters that determine how exactly they grow. In the update, I added moustaches and beards (two more zones), but it doesn't work great.
