Very fun, intuitive game! I really like that you're a box that things fall into.  The task of collecting fruits for random people was very clear and accessible.   The platforming challenges were all various and engaging. Very cool.

What would I add?  The camera felt challenging at times.  If there were actual physics for the objects you were carrying, it would be fun to collect bigger, more unwieldy objects, and have to carry them through different platforming sections.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Yes the camera. Just invert it and see how that goes first. (Or did you add already? )

Best : Is the level design is smart and fun. The Jump mechanic twist is cool. It's simple but the overall world is so fun.

The endless mode is a great add.

DeveloperSubmitted

Just added camera inversion options! Thanks for playing; glad you gave the endless mode a try!

First off, love the N64 vibes in this game.

Favorite thing:
The obstacles variety, feels like something that would be in sm64, enjoyed the level design a lot.

Least favorite thing:
As others already pointed out, camera controls need some love and attention, struggled to keep the camera steady, an option to invert it would be nice.

What else would i add:
One thing that comes to mind is a boss fight. Not sure how well it would fit the jam entry, but if you want to improve the game further, that would be a neat addition i think.

Thanks for commenting! I've updated the game to let you tweak camera inversions and sensitivity, if you're interested. Seems like quite a few people like the stage hazards I added, which is cool to see!

Nice idea for a game and it's a good start! I'd definitely say the camera control needs to be inverted as it's quite frustrating to use as it is. Also maybe the obstacles could actually damage the player somehow, as when you're trying to get to each tree you don't really need to avoid the obstacles. Keep working on it, I love the look of the basket :)

DeveloperSubmitted(+1)

I've added options to invert camera control, if that suits your fancy. I didn't add a health/damage mechanic since the obstacles make you drop your berries, which I figured would be enough punishment. As another commenter pointed out, though, the obstacles don't pose much of a threat on the return trip, which might make that conceit easy to overlook. Anyways, thanks for commenting!

I just want to start by saying I absolutely adore Barry's design, my new favourite lil' boxy dude! And the people, I loved their disappearing effect when they got the fruit they wanted.

Favorite thing:

Great idea and gameplay, I really liked how there were different zones for each of the berries, with their own unique traps. Also shout out to the detail of making Barry's jump shorter the more weighed down with berries he is!

Least favorite thing:

The camera wasn't great for me unfortunately, if there was an option to invert the controls I think it would help, and maybe if it was a little less sensitive. I was able to get the hang of it though!

What I would add:

I think the idea of hitting the traps to make you lose berries is great, the only thing is it's very easy to avoid them on the way back, and when you have no berries, there's no issue with taking a hit. So maybe if you wanted to add a bit more challenge, you could add an overall health bar, or find a way that makes the player unable to skip by all the traps on the way back. (I will say for endless mode, the timer on the people added a nice bit of challenge!)

Overall I really liked it, so much charm and character. A few tweaks of the camera and maybe a little more challenge to get the most out of the unique zones would be great, but honestly overall a great time, nicely done! :D

I had a lot of fun with that disappearing effect :)

Anyways, I've updated the game with more options for the camera controls, if that interests you. You've actually got a really good point when it comes to how you can skip the traps on the return trip; that might've been intentional when I was designing it, but the beach area is a weird exception. Maybe I should've designed every area kind of like that?

Thanks for the feedback!

Fun game!

Here's my feedback based on what you asked for,

Favorite Part?

The different variety of traps and enemies trying to stop you from collect the berries. Each one of them was unique making it fun and challenging to get to each different berry :)

Least Favorite Part?

The camera kept moving and was a struggle. Perhaps have a fixed camera that tracks the player from above or fine tune the camera.

What would you add?

More emphasis on platforming and tighter controls so that each jump and movement required more precision to dodge the enemies and traps

Good to know it was worth the effort to add different stage hazards! I updated the game with options to adjust the camera sensitivity and inversions, but the camera is still an area I hope to improve in the future for both this game and others I might work on. Thanks for playing!

Interesting game, the hazards were well placed, and it's nice that each tree corresponds to a different "biome" in a way.

The design and graphics are alright, and the music and SFX are nice too.

The only big issue i can see is with the camera, since it has too much sensitivity and it's inverted. So sometimes a simple path becamos something really difficult to handle, unless this was intended to add more difficulty, otherwise i can see this is a really fun game, but if you'll continue working on it, please improve the camera so it's more enjoyable

Just updated the game with options for camera sensitivity and inversion; give it a try if you're interested.

I had a lot of fun playing the game but jumping let you skip a few things. The camera sensitivity felt a but high so a option to adjust it would be nice

My favorite thing about the game is the part with the spinning beams and my least favorite is how easy it is to lose all of your fruit on some of the obstacles.

DeveloperSubmitted

Thanks for playing! I've updated the game to include a camera sensitivity slider, if you want to give it another try. As for being able to jump past some things, that was kind of the idea since your jumps become heavier the more fruit you're holding, giving a sense of risk/reward if you're going for high scores.

great little concept!

- the biggest thing i would like to see is the mouse controls reversed. currently moving mouse left makes player look right, and that's the opposite of most games so i found it very confusing.

- i'd like to see the player collider size increased so that it doesn't visually clip into things.

- i'd like more indication that getting hit has a consequence (dropping a fruit)

- i'd like the run speed to be faster.

- on the web build, i coudln't press escape to end the level because escape is used to defocus the game in the browser. maybe add a button i can click for that instead.

DeveloperSubmitted

Thanks for playing! The escape to defocus issue is a good point I hadn't considered.

DeveloperSubmitted

Added the option to invert camera controls, as well as letting you pause with backspace. Give it a try if that sounds interesting.

both changes work nicely, good job!

Hey Iggyminious! Here we are again - we both started our game during the Game Develop Month :-)

I  gave your  improved game version a try, but I have an issue - or a question. Can the camera movement be inverted (is there a setting somewhere)? When I swing the mouse cursor  to the left, it feels so strange and "wrong" that the cameras view turns to the  right - indeed I would expect the complete opposite (camera view following the direction of the cursor).

Tried to play the game as it is, but it's kind of impossible. I think it  has to do with the brain -  for some players it feels completely natural how it is in your game now, and for the others  (players like me) we need it the other way around.

Hi! Currently, no, there's no option to invert the camera. You're not the first person to bring this up, though, so I'll definitely add that if I make another subsequent update!
