Wow, this game is truly amazing! As someone who loves FPS games like Doom, this little gem hits all the right notes. It's a charming and bizarre experience with the chaos and concept of fighting EVIL letters, which adds to its uniqueness!

The combo system in the game is a banger, and the gradual gun upgrades provide a simple yet enjoyable progression. The mechanics and chaos in the gameplay are simply mind-blowing. And let's talk about the music—it's absolutely perfect! It sets the tone and enhances the overall experience.

I must mention that the AI is nearly perfect, except for "C" who tends to stand motionless at times, making them easy kills. However, apart from that minor issue, everything else about the AI is amazing. And to think this game was made in just three days? It's truly impressive!

If I had to be more critical, I would say that the map feels unfinished. It's evident that it's template stuff, and that takes away a bit from the overall experience. Additionally, I understand what you mean about the games theme, though imo it doesn't really fit "echos". However, this doesn't bother me much because, in terms of quality and creativity, this is undoubtedly one of the best entries. The fact that you managed to create multiple AI characters and implement various mechanics in just three days is commendable.

Overall, amazing work! I genuinely hope you continue working on this game after the voting period because I would happily pay for a full version. It has the potential to become something truly special. Keep up the great work!

Wow, thank you for the super kind words!!

Especially about the AI, since that's what gave us the most heartache during the project, haha. There was a really bad bug on the second to last day that had us up until 4am on a discord call debugging where seemingly randomly, ALL of the letters would freeze in place and start spinning in circles firing in random directions endlessly (it'd even affect newly spawned enemies). A handful of hacks later, and you get the current solution that's in the game, which involves the C letters listlessly staring off into the distance for some reason. But whatever, we were just happy the game was playable :)

As for the map, you're totally right in that it was primarily a template blockout. Myself and the other programmer were more interested in making the shooting/scoring/AI systems the best they could be, so we didn't put that much time into map design. And yeah, the game's connection to the theme is admittedly pretty weak... we latched onto the notion that an echo was a copy of something early on, and figured we could pretty conveniently work that into whatever game we wanted to make, which ended up being a score attack arena shooter :)

Thank you again for the review!

When you extract the game, the files scatter everywhere, it would be better for the files to be inside of a folder.

I scored 14.710, maybe add a difficulty setting.

Developer(+1)

Gotcha, will keep that in mind. I didn't know that was an issue since doing the "Extract All" option on my computer automatically generated a folder for the files, but I guess it behaves differently on other machines.

I love me a fun and juicy first person shooter, this game was fun!
10/10 for having such a good menu system and having all those settings. the movement and shooting is smooth and satisfying and I love the feedback you get from doing certain actions. The enemies where a bit all over the place but they where fun target practice anyways so its not a big issue. I think if the map had some textures, the game could have looked a lot more polished but you only had 3 days so I cant blame you. I really enjoyed the different types of guns, they all had their own playstyle and feel. I was really exited when I saw that shiny golden figure 8 boss but I managed to run around it in a circle and not get hit once. I have had this issue before when coding enemies and the only way around this problem would be to add in different movement patterns or make the enemy predict your location and shoot there instead.
I didn't encounter any bugs apart from the already mentioned one with the menu.
very solid game you guys made, well done!

Developer

Glad you had fun! We initially planned on the S boss being bullet-helly, but ran out of time lol. Prediction shooting would have for sure been great to have for it.

yeah that's alright, we also had to cut out a lot of mechanics because of time :(  who knew game jams would be so unforgiving

Very very fun!

I really enjoy the wild chaos of this game and the music choice was a great fit that added to the game's upbeat nature.

When it comes to the enemy A.I., The A.I. for the "C" enemies behaved a little strange as they would mostly just stand motionless and be free kills, only some would start shooting. However on the other hand the "B" enemies were incredibly fun and I absolutely loved their behavior of jumping around, it added a lot to the fun chaos of the game.

As for bugs I only ran into one at the start of the game. When the blue info panel pops up the empty score bar appeared over top of it and made it difficult to read the start of the text. Everything else was polished up very well!

But overall I had a lot of fun with this one! I find that a lot of others, myself included, took the more dark and serious tone approach to the "echoes" theme so it's really nice to see the more upbeat projects.

Thank you for the kind words!

The AI is definitely held together by gum and glue, haha. Getting that stuff even somewhat functional gave us so much strife, it doesn't surprise me that one of the enemy types is bugging out like that.

Both myself and the other programmer agreed that the B enemies were the most fun wave to face because it made us feel like we were getting sick air shots :)

And yeah, that UI bug didn't show its face until we built the game an hour before the deadline. It doesn't happen in the editor, but does happen in the build for some reason, and we were like ah well whatever lol

Definitely an exciting and fast vibe! +1
