  • Thanks for your entry into the game jam! I slammed right into playing! I LOVE the swing mechanics and how smooth and responsive it was! The keeping momentum and wrecking ball shift could use some indicator that you have enough momentum to go into wrecking ball and break the file. Thank you for the area of grapple range circle. It was nice and totally see a hard mode removing it :) Music was fun but likely should be updated to fit the theme of a computer virus. Art was cute but didn't offer me the impression I was in a computer and collecting files. Reading the GDD helped me understand the objective but the art didn't do anything to expand on the setting you provided. That said I actually like the art choice and think you can pivot if you choose to make the narrative about some momentum driven alien or a blob on a rampage. I did not see any enemies as detailed in the GDD. Personally the game play was fun enough without them so up to you if you add them in! Great job overall had fun with the game and mechanics!

Have you checked that your GDD is publicly accessible ?
Yes

Is your game set to public on itch.io so we can see it?
Yes

Summarise your game!
You play as B.L.O.O.P.E.R.T, a Backdoor Lockout Overtly Operating, Provoking Every Risk and Threat, who was just sent over to another computer to wreak as much havoc as possible onto the computer. Using a grappling hook to gain and alter your velocity, find the files scattered around the map to open up the firewall to your target, system42. You can only deal damage to the files if you become "invulnerable," but you cannot change your trajectory.

Please explain how your game fits the theme:
The game fits the theme in 2 different ways, one in that the main protagonist of the game, B.L.O.O.P.E.R.T, is a virus, invading another computer, sent by someone else to attack them.
The second is that you fling your body around using a grappling hook, SLAMming your little virus body into whatever files you can get your hands on.

Is there anything you'd like the judges to pay particular attention to?
Nothing in particular. If anything, I hope you enjoy the movement!

I managed to complete the first level, which I’m not sure if the end as it simply displayed “what did you think was gonna happen”. I liked the concept of swinging around to break files, but I feel there is a number of things that could be improved.

For a game who’s primary movement is the swinging mechanic, I hope the swinging could be improved on. The swing’s radius range is actually smaller than what’s displayed, as I’ve tried multiple times to click on something that is close to the edge of the range and it not grappling to swing at all. The grappling hook should be thrown out in the direction the player clicks regardless of it could grapple onto a wall or not. I’ve played some games with similar mechanics, like Terraria’s hooks and Rain World’s Saint character’s tongue, which use a similar grappling movement style. Some mouse click correction would also be great, as certain platforms are so tiny that even if I feel I clicked on the platform, with how the camera moves with the player, I end up missing and have to redo that part of the jump. Perhaps clicking in a small range of the platform auto grapples you to the platform itself, to make it more forgiving.

The tutorial section with the Shift and mouse click was quite confusing, and I had to look at previous reviews and your reply to said review in order to get an idea of what to do. I was stuck pressing shift jumping on the file, going toward the file etc. for awhile before I realised I had to reach a certain speed threshold.

The momentum that you get from swinging around actually feels really great when you let it build up, but the initial first grapple seems to be quite disappointing. Maybe a way to sort of “fling” the target in the direction so it goes a little above instead of just to where was clicked might be a good thing. Also, many times I’ve tried grappling to the edge of a platform, and trying to jump to get up on it and was disappointed it was not a mechanic. Larger maps might also help if you want make full use of the good momentum you have of the swinging mechanic, larger open areas for the player to swing around. With maybe traps (like spikes) instead of platforms that break your momentum.

The main menu with the play button also does not seem to scale with browser size, as it automatically does a sort of full screen to the current browser size, I’m left with a gap at the sides of my browser that’s just grey. The game itself does scale with the browser size (albeit showing more of the map with a bigger browser size) so that’s great.

I feel with the right tweaks, this could be a really fun minigame, as the swinging itself was great when the chance was to have fun with it was given to the player! Great work for the game jam!

Others have mentioned it but the swinging mechanic has been handled masterfully! It feels smooth and is pretty fun to do. I did not realize there was a timer at first but the second time I did it in the nick of time. Level design was great, its a quick fun experience, would love to see more level in the future!

Cool game. I liked the movement mechanics and swinging into files before destroying them was satisfying. Sometimes grappling is a bit difficult when you have to grapple onto 1 tile wide blocks, but otherwise very nice. Great work!

Thank you! Preciate the feedback :)

Swinging feels nice but unfortunetly i didnt get too far I am  stuck on part with shift, any hints about that.

Glad to hear you liked the grappling hook! The ambiguity on shift is very much my fault I definitely made that part a bit vague ;-;.

If you'd like just a hint, just look back to the name of the game :)

The movement feels really nice. I could figure out how to progress at the part where it wanted me to use shift. not sure where to use it. But overall good job!

Thank you for the feedback! It's very much my fault for the vagueness of the beginning section, but i'm glad you found some enjoyment regardless :)

Super cool movement. I did get a blooper alert though when I freed the whatever it is and tried to collect it.

Thank you :) Yeah I had to rush both of the "endings" to get this thing in on time, so I know they don't make a whole lot of sense.. Thank you for playing regardless, though!
