Which path did you choose?

Patch Build

How does your game bring our theme, OUT OF TIME, to life?
Note: Currently uploads are locked and this version is succeptible to soft-locks.

The hotfix (for feedback, not ratings) is available:
https://staticleapstudios.itch.io/favour-hotfix

It is an MMO turn-based strategy where you accumulate turns over time but can spend them at will. Running OUT OF TIME is when you spend all your turns and have to wait for them to replenish (1 turn per 5 min up to 250 turn capacity).

This is a patch build, as the feedback I received from the first upload was that it was too hard to play or understand what is happening. Most of the work I had done was on the back end, but I realized that without a user friendly presentation, that work never gets seen.

For the last week, I streamlined the UI and worked up a guided tutorial mode instead of walls of text. On the back end, I created an NPC faction to present a new player with a low-threat first encounter.

If you are trying the non-hotfix build, I apologize that some ui elements like army movement / building notifications and invasion alarms are broken, and there are likely other bugs I did not catch when developing this. If you get stuck and refreshing the page does not work, the janky fix is:
Main menu
Reincarnate
Refresh Page
Continue to create a new profile
Known bug: The first time you select the garrison button, your units do not display. If you are in the tutorial, this can turn into a soft lock. The fix: Press enter after selecting the garrison button, as it should still be focused, this should trigger it a second time and pull your units up correctly, even if the tutorial is blocking the button from being clicked.

What did you do to ensure accessibility of the game?
Guided tutorial, icons, subtitles, only need 1 hand to play (mouse)

Did you include the Indieformer or Patch Notes logo somewhere in your game?

No

Neat concept! I kept getting stuck in the tutorial (focus stuck on the battle review section). Rerolling and not doing the tutorial got me by that.

Good job making a game that connects to the internet, that takes infra to set up! I like you can keep a character rolling, though requiring email and password for a jam game is a hard sell for some. I think basics all look to be there, but once I ran out of turns I quickly didn't have much to do. I also didn't seem to be accumulating turn points if I closed out the game and reconnected.

I would say there is a lot of information going on in the game and that makes  it bit difficult to grasp the first couple of times through. I just followed the tips until I had stuff happening.

Tooltips and context boxes for each tile type and UI element will be essential for a game like this. I know you don't have them just yet, but when I went to try to test hovering the top bar or side bars it would scroll the map. I would try and bind this to something like right click and hold or middle mouse button hold and drag to move the map instead of screen edge detection would be finicky once you add tool tips.

I think you have bones for something interesting, but keep iterating!

Thank you for the feedback! The tutorial and tooltips are fixed in the hotfix I linked, but uploads were locked so it's on a separate page.

Amazing game, I like the art and the music is very good. Although I didn't get to play it that much, it was still very enjoyable. Good job :)

Thank you for the kind feedback!  I uploaded a hotfix to a separate page if you want to try it without the really bad bugs I didn't notice in the jam version
