The surreal and abstract narrative made me feel like I was watching a David Lynch movie or listening to one of the Residents songs. You know, actually, it felt like I was doing both at the same time! Very unusual and original experience.

While I'm still trying to figure out what's the deeper meaning behind it all, right now it's interesting to notice how the latter part of the story is told through the metaphorical fever dreams earlier in the game (and occasional foreshadowing like the blue doll appearing on a shelf in the very beginning).

I also want to comment on how well you mixed different images from photo stocks into one complete picture. The art style looks very consistent and together with the smooth animations it creates quite a cinematic experience. True arthouse!

Thank you for submitting your game to the 'Out of Stock' jam!

Thank you very much!

Cool that it reminded you of the Resident's song, that was kind of exactly the type of ambiance I was going for  !
It makes me happy to see that you noticed the smooth animations. I used a more advanced way to animate the stock photos.

There were still a lot of parts missing since I did not finish everything, also I didn't add references in the speech that I wanted, like the 'photos', and the ware house that is 'out of stock' lol.

Thank you so much for playing and for your kind comment!

I liked the game a good bit it did start out confusing for me but thats because im dumb????  stock photos just look creepy.

Developer

Thank you so much for taking the time to play the game!
I'm happy to hear you liked it!

I didn't have time to add the tutorial in the beginning.
In the finished version you will have a description that tell you how to use the controls to move around, so it will  be more intuitive to understand how to play ;) I'll post an updated version in about 2 weeks ;)

wow that was a spooky ride!! very well executed, i got the vibe of an old CD-ROM game from the visuals and controls, also the story was pretty interesting!!

one minor issue I got was that with the black screens i couldn't be sure whether the game was loading or stuck, some indication of loading would be much helpful

10/10 solid spooky experience

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much for your kind words and encouragement!
I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Yes, I removed the loading bar by accident lol, I just put it back on, in the game project file. ;)
I will also  put out an upgraded version of this game in about two weeks!

Cheers!

Had a lot of fun with this! You can tell the voice actor did as well!
Developer

Haha thank you, I'm glad  you had fun!
I did enjoy the voice acting indeed.

Thank you so much for playing and doing the video play!
I really like your style  and you have a great voice, you could do voice acting yourself!

I was in a lot of hurry for this game btw. and didn't have a lot of time, I will publish an improved and polished version in about two weeks!

Haven't played the game fully since i got stuck at the photos not knowing what to do XD

REALLY unique movement and look tho, being able to essentially free-roam in 2D, and it looks like it'd be pretty spooky later on XD

Developer

hey thanks for playing!

I appreciate that you enjoy the controls.

Just move the photos around a little more, and you'll get there, I promise!

I'd he happy if you tried again, the main part and the horror starts after the photos.

Finally, the Robert Smith representation we've all been waiting for in videos games. It would have been nice if there were subtitles with the dialog, but otherwise it was a very spooky experience!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Lol.

Subtitles were not possible in the time that I had unfortunately, nor re-doing the audio.

Were you able to play until the end? (Where the warning sign appears again?

Submitted(+1)

Of course! I played through to the end/start! I had a lot of fun! :)

Developer(+1)

Ok, relieved to hear! :) Glad you had fun!
