Description
My cover of The Wind Forest from My Neighbor Totoro. This song has always moved me. I am so happy I was finally able to cover this beautiful piece. I wanted to make it as equally familiar as I did new, so my take ended up being this kind of hybrid Orchestral Hip Hop.

I wanted to create the feeling of nostalgia and familiarity, yet fresh and surprising. I used a combination of real and electronic instruments to accomplish this. I was able to tackle the optional theme of dreamscape through these means. As if you are revisiting your memories with fresh eyes.

I hope you enjoy it!

Finally got a chance to listen closely to this - the blend of percussion and alternative percussion noises is really a joy to listen to. And the melody blends nicely on top. But interestingly I find that bell/hand pan/wooden sounding thing playing straight notes with one skipped note to really pull the whole song together. Idk if that's even in the original but i loved it!

Great idea to put a track from a Miyazaki movie! And yet that seemed evident ^^

Really like what you did to fit with the jam's theme, it works perfectly!

Man, your description hits the nail on the head. This is just like a dreamy new lens to see such an important part of my childhood through. I didn't know what orchestral hip hop was before this, but I am certainly a fan now! I love the sounds you use at the beginning that add to the Totoro ambience. I think it's such a smart move to have a pedal pad tone playing throughout - this was such a creative way to make your track sound more dream-like. The B section creates space for breath and I love the simplicity in the percussion and the combo of acoustic + electronic instrumentation. On the third repeat of your A section at the end, your own countermelody sounds so natural with Joe Hisaishi's and really ties the whole piece together.  Overall, excellent work!

Lovely arrangement of a fantastic piece.  Love how the synth elements come together with the orchestral ones.

Nice mood! Cozy as childhood memories, just as Joe-san's inspiration work. Great cover :)
