Description
This is a Hybrid Orchestral/Synth/Rock soundtrack. I used Ableton to compose all the tracks. For virtual instruments I mainly used kontact libraries and serum. Native Instruments Symphony Orchestra is the orchestral library I used here. (The descriptions following is also seen on the project page.)
1. Moved by the View - Main Theme
This piece is representing the main theme/opening scene of the game. This piece starts out with ocean sounds as the player takes a look out on the pier wondering if they are in the right place. Somber melodies take over representing the memories of their past home coming in. Its almost bittersweet. After a bit the player almost snaps out of it while looking out and seeing the beauty of the beach. (This is where the solo triangle starts playing) Then as the full orchestra, drums and guitar and wave sound effect come in, this represents the player zoning out while admiring the beach and getting slammed by a huge wave! Instead of getting angry, the player playfully starts running around and playing in the ocean! Over this is a playful and joyous melody as the worries wash away! Towards the end we encounter a diminished chord which represents the player losing balance. Another wave effect comes in and we return to the home key at the beginning of the piece with a singular piano note representing how the player got absolutely wiped out by a wave and then returns to their normal state of somberness.
2. Behind a Busy Mind - Town Theme
This piece is suppose to be a town theme starting off with chattering and cars setting the scene. It then kind of fades into a vibraphone playing some chords that feel foggy and mysterious to me. This feeling represents the player feeling brain fog after settling into a routine and going on autopilot. The marimba and other percussion instruments breaking in the second time represent moments of the player breaking out of this auto pilot mode but failing to keep the focus going for long. The runs following this and throughout the piece trading between the marimba and second vibraphone represent thoughts racing in the players head. The piece then goes into a peaceful moment as the player stops and smells a familiar smell from a food cart in the street, selling a food that was commonly sold back at their hometown. This drifts them into thinking more peacefully and calmly for a bit. Then the runs from the marimba and second vibraphone kick back in representing sweet but rapid thoughts flooding back into their head from the memories that just struck them. At the end of it all they completely snap out of the brain fog landing back on the tonic in the piece and the chatter from the street returns, showing how they have gotten out of their head a little bit.
3. Yikes! That was close! - Chase Scene
This piece is straight forward. You the player are exploring a nearby forest hoping to connect with nature to break out of this foggy headspace you were in previously when all of the sudden you feel danger... Then out of nowhere a bear runs up to you and fiercely roars! (Yes... the bear roaring in the piece is literally me screaming pitched down and heavily processed haha!) You then are prompted to run and try and get away from this beast! The swelling horns in the piece represent close calls with the bear almost catching you while the flute section running down chromatically represents you tripping and falling over sticks and rocks. The roto toms in this piece represent the bears massive and clumsy footsteps rushing towards you. As the horns swell one last time signaling that you are cornered and the bear is about to attack, you cover your eyes and suddenly see that the bear had fallen. It has been shot with some kind of dart. You feel relieved by are confused as ever signaled by the organ and strange flute solo coming in. How did this happen? The woodwinds and strings built up as you are looking around for answers when suddenly... (Music stops) The low brass lets out one last roar as your heart drops seeing a shadowy figure was watching you the whole time and disappears without a trace forever.
4. Flooded by Golden Memories - Ending Credits Music
This piece represents you the player at the end of the game walking back to the pier in the dark, hearing the ocean once again in the beginning accompanied by a somber organ and woodwind choir. Over all of this is a solo flute again to represent how you still somehow feel alone in the crowd here at this new place. But then... the sun rises, you stop paying attention to everything and look at the beautiful sky! But then, while not paying attention, a massive wave hits you soaking you completely. This suddenly gives you a flood of memories to that first day you moved here and how happy you were running on the shore! We now modulate to a major key! This massive chorus featuring similar instrumentation as the main theme/opening scene's main chorus comes crashing in with the wave! You start to smile wide instead of being upset you were soaked because of all of the nostalgia coming back to you from that first day moving in. After a bit a leit motif/ call back (Which over this chord progression just feels like a golden happy memory to me) to the main theme's guitar solo comes in and this represents the player going for that run again! This ends the game off with the player running happily into the distance with the credits rolling! The end!
Message from the artist
This jam really pushed me to do something that I have been meaning to do for a long time. Make a couple pieces I am proud of to submit to my universities composition as an audition. Can't thank you guys enough for making that experience feel so streamlined! This all felt so professional which really made me dive deep and give it my all! I also feel like I've come a long way since my first jam with you guys! (Now time for some sleep I am EXHAUSTED!)
Theme

How does it fit the theme?
My OST was about a game where the player moves to a beach town by the pier. I incorporate lots of beachy ocean sound effects into my music to portray this and enhance story telling. I combined the title and picture into my story telling. Other than that I believe the sound of my music matches the art style and could fit in a game with this look. (Spent a lot of time looking at the picture theme while composing!)

You hooked me with that sudden pick-up in "Moved by the View!" You said that your composition was very intentional and that comes across very clearly, especially in "Yikes! That was close!" which might as well have been set to a scene in a movie. And you were you really cooking on "Flooded by Golden Memories," somehow raising the stakes one last time with a sudden burst of energy from the drums and guitar. This was an impressive feat in an album that had been constantly pushing its boundaries since the first track. Really impressive work here!
This was an awesome approach to an orchestral soundtrack, loved the twist at the back half of "Moved by the View". I think the mix of both Synth and Rock offer a familiar but distinct sound to an orchestral soundtrack that I'm sure we've all heard before, the writing of this even reminds me a little bit of Deltarune at times actually. Awesome work man!
The music plays more like it's in a short film than a videogame but that doesn't mean it's not good. The first track was super cool when it hit that crazy high point in the latter half it was a very cool listen!
I also like how much thought went into the orchestration which makes it more engaging as a listener.
Yo cole this is some really cool stuff. It's clear u got an ear for blending aounds and genres - i love doing hybrid works too rather than just one orchestral or rock or synth aound so it felr great to listen to. Especially the rock section in track 1 was great, sounded like Sungazer! I would say for me the whole ost maybe lacked cohesion across them so i didnt get lots of the storytelling aspect, but this doesnt detract from how stronf each individual piece is. Well done!
"oh hey this is such a great vibe to chill ou- DUDE WHAAAAAAT THAT GUITAR >:000000" about sums up my experience with the first track, SUPER powerful opening. I love how quiet and unassuming all the songs are on the album, it adds a ton to the cohesiveness of the whole thing and the way it builds into the final track is so great. Those explosions into roaring sections with the orchestra and guitars feel earned because of those quiet sections, fantastic work!!!
WOAH that was so good. The way that first tracks just explodes?? MMMMMMM
WOOOOWWWW how beautiful this is, it feels more like a whole ass movie soundtrack than a game but i think it works out perfectly here, one of the strongest opening themes and ending themes ive heard on here too. making the first and last track nice and energetic makes it so memorable.
actual amazing work here keep making stuff pleeeasse
It's cool how you connect musical ideas to specific story/character moments. I really like the chords in the first half of track 2! Nice job!
Flooded by Golden Memories, what a rush! Great work!
Man the end of the Main theme was something! And even tough I don't really think like the whole soundtrack fits the "One summer night" theme, it was pretty good to listen to !
I dont think its going for the One summer night theme fully and it comes across more like its trying to fit the image theme here!
