Description
The genre of the game is best described as electronic.
The game I designed the soundtrack for took inspiration from the games Inside/Limbo, Rain World and Hollow Knight. A lush dystopian world overrun by robots and mutated creatures.
Each track is meant to represent a part of the world the player traverses. The first track, Unrecognizable would play over a cutscene explaining how the world went into disarray. Both exploration themes would adapt to the scenery. The robotic enemy theme (titled UGV) would play in an area where the player is chased by UGV scouts. Similarly, the human enemy theme plays while traversing a mutated human nest. The Boss Theme plays while you fight the central control unit who controls all connected robots on the planet. Plan Z plays during a cutscene where the player frees the remaining living humans in stasis, and the final track plays when the player reaches the beginning of the game again, where they sit down to look over the meadow they started at.
Each track, as you may notice, has quite simple progression. I always started with an element which represents the theme of the track the most. For example, for the first track, I used the "Dystopian Lead" synth in the "Arksun Cityscape" pack, with which I jammed out around the A minor chord. Eventually recreating the progression with a grand piano patch, and slowly faded the synth in, drowning out the piano.
I used FL Studio as my DAW, using FLEX as the sound library. All sounds come from the free libraries you can download.
Message from the artist
I'm aware that I still have a long way to go, but I'm happy with where I am, and I can't wait to learn more.
Theme
How does it fit the theme?
The game revolves around the player exploring a world in ruin. Due to the player being a reverse cyborg (A robot who fixed itself using human parts) with a human conscience the world, being overrun by robots, would normally be most favorable to the player. Despite this, the protagonist still wants to fix it.
