Description
Music genre: Orchestral/Electronic.
Game genre: Platformer.
DAW: Cakewalk by Bandlab.
"Title" would be used for the title screen, "Dark Flame" would be used for introducing the Dark Flame, who is the antagonist (and reused for the final boss battle since I wanted to keep the soundtrack simple and short), "The Forest", "Robo City" and "Mount Slush" would be used for the respective in-game areas, and "Challenge" would be for bonus levels.

Message from the artist:
(If I just like your comment instead of replying, I'm not trying to be rude or dismiss it; I genuinely appreciate the comments :) I just press 'like' when I don't have anything to reply with) These are my first songs to be shared on Itch, and the first ones I've shared publicly that were made in Cakewalk.

Theme:

Runaway

How does it fit the theme?
The protagonists, Phospho and Lumi, run away from home when it becomes overtaken by the Dark Flame. I intended to make a "Leaving Home" track, but that didn't work out because a sad song would've been too different from the mostly-quirky soundtrack.

It feels really ironic that ‘correlation to theme’ got the highest ranking here, since I didn’t even make a track where the protagonists are actually ‘running away.’ Nevertheless, thank you everyone for rating this. I had a blast doing this jam and I hope to do it again when the next one comes around! :D

First off, I love the handle Jazzborn :D. Now on to the theme.

Title - Yep, that sounds like a title theme alright. I think it's cool that you made an image with the album, because the two feel like they really fit together. I am indeed getting quite the happy vibe from this title.

The Dark Flame - I feel we're being introduced to our villain now. It's very videogamey and very effective.

The Forest - Love the subtle use of noise here. It makes me think of wind blowing through the trees. Very effective. Also love that calm little melody. Really like that evolving pad. It provides a nice solid foundation to build everything on. It's a very relaxing theme. It sounds pleasant, which I think is perfect.

Challenge - I'm imagining that we're being trained for a battle or something of the sort. The music doesn't feel particularly threatening, but it definitely feels like we are going to have to get things done. :D

Robo City - Nice. The loopy synth sound definitely gives it a bit of a robo feel. I feel like we're constructing some sort of perimeter defense or something like that. Another cool track.

Mount Slush - Are we mounting our final attack now? The theme immediately makes me think like we've prepared now, and we are ready to see this thing to its conclusion. It also feels like we are well prepared. While there is some urgency in the soundtrack, it does not sound scared.

As advertised on the tin. I think this is a very solid videogame soundtrack that actually sounds like a videogame soundtrack. None of the tracks were very attention grabby, but they just gently complement whatever would be happening on screen, which I think is good for a game of this style. Great job!

I’m replying late but thank you very much! It sounds like the tracks sounded just the way they were meant to. Thank you for taking the time to analyze and describe the OST, so I can better understand how it sounds.

This is spot on for a game. Simple soundfonts create a charming old school feel. I particularly like The Forest theme. with these ethereal glass sounds in the background, very soothing. Robo City is very quirky, too with the chiptune sounds. Each track has its own feel and all are really well put together. Thanks for sharing!

Wow! I really can see the images of the games in my mind. I love the illustration too. Very nice, believe me!😁

Title: I really like the characters you created and I think that the instrumentation you chose is perfect to accompany them. The crescendo in the string octaves/fifths is the musical version of a light turning on which is such a cool effect. I also like the piano notes that play repeated notes- it has an intimate piano sound reminiscent of Kirby Epic Yarn’s soundtrack, which I am a big fan of.

Dark Flame: Your choice of brass works so well for the game’s villain. I think that your choice to keep the theme short and loopable is a smart choice for a game in which the player would likely get to dictate how long they stay in a single portion of the game so if they speed through, they would still get to hear the theme in its entirety.

The Forest: I love the delay on the piano which makes it sound like bell echoes! The pedal bass adds a sense of calm and tranquility and helps ground the melody when you ascend in a way that might not make sense in the major key without the grounding. I also really like the sound of the waterfall in the background; it adds to the calmness of the piece.

Challenge: This track gives some expectant intensity that is great for a bonus level. At first, because of the machine-like sound, I thought it was the Robo city theme, but I think you made a great choice in placing it in your soundtrack where you did because of that.

Robo City: The low melody sounds like the whirring of a machine and together with the beat give a nice robotic sound that fits the cartoony vibe of the rest of the soundtrack. I also appreciate the use of the motif with the multiple repeated notes in the high register. Doing that, even if they aren’t the same exact notes, is a great way to add continuity throughout your soundtrack, and I for one really appreciated it!

Mount Slush: This one reminded me of the original Donkey Kong Country game in the mine cart and mountain levels. The wide space between your upper and lower register instruments gives it a stark feeling that makes it feel like it would fit with gameplay on a blizzard-y mountain!

Overall: These are solid tracks! I’m so glad you decided to start sharing your music publicly. You have a charm in your composition that is extremely likable and think that the concept and music of your game are essentially game-ready. Great work and thank you for sharing!

Wow…Thank you so much! Most of the stuff you mentioned, I hadn’t even thought of. I did notice the Kirby’s Epic Yarn resemblance, but only after I pieced that part together. The fifths and octaves were intended for a bright sound, but I hadn’t considered it to sound like an actual light-related theme (similar with Robo City; I did deliberately choose a synth bass but I didn’t realize it sounded like a machine whirring). The Forest was inspired by Monument Valley’s OST, so it seemed only natural to add a delay effect. As for Mount Slush, Donkey Kong is exactly what I was going for! (That and the Dojo theme from Club Penguin, since the dojo is on top of a snowy mountain) Thank you so much for your analysis and support! It means a lot :D

Big fan of the forest track, love the drone use. Good tracks!

I like how many of the soundtracks feel peaceful, and the use of both orchestra and electronic was nice!

Oh wow, I agree with mothnog, the synths in "The Forest" were lovely! Especially the intro synths, but the whole track was wonderful. Overall, great job!

"The Forest" is my favourite, it's so peaceful. I'm curious - do you make your own synth sounds or use pre-existing patches? (wondering because I use surge as well :) )

Thank you so much, I’m glad you enjoyed it! I make my own patches, partially because most factory/third-party patches tend to sound really harsh.
