Great job submitting a game! I think what you've managed to create here is great for a second game. As others have pointed out, once you figure out that everything else but turrets loses you money you can't lose. I think you've done a great job with the visuals, everything is very clear and minimal. Also great work fitting in the upgrade theme although it didn't seem like my turrets needed them since the default fire rate could keep up with the enemy spawn rate. With some simple balancing I think this would be a very polished experience. Hope you were able to learn a lot and thanks for participating!

Challenging game. I included it in my Nokia 3310 Jam 4 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :)

If you do more on this or make another such game, I would recommend setting up waves of enemies and a way to make them slightly strong each wave. Just having the enemies spawn continuously doesn't generate the high's and low's in tension that make for a fun experience.

This seems like it could be cool, but the economy just isn't very balanced. Either you get some good turrets set up and snowball into being unbeatable, or you just get no money and can't really do anything. I think some passive money generation (possibly buildings that generate money) and some limitation to the turrets would do a lot to make if feel more fair.

Hey, this is a pretty cool lane defense game.

The balance/learning curve are a bit funky though. I had a tough time at the start, but after a couple bad runs I discovered that the projectile turrets were basically free money! My strat was to let the fences get destroyed early on for some extra cash and just go straight for more turrets. Once every tile was covered with turret fire I’m pretty sure I put the game into an unloseable state.

There’s some kind of second ‘scrap’ currency for upgrades, right? Wasn’t too sure how that worked, didn’t see it in the HUD – it seemed like it should just be done with money as well. I imagine the idea was to have the fireball things as a quick last resort, but barricades being more cost-effective in the long term if you can keep them up longer with upgrades. The fireballs seem unnecessary though as things are.

I can see it going further with some economy adjustments, turrets having limited ammo or not firing into their own lane, something like that.

Thanks! I didn't really have time to tweak everything. My goal was just to learn and get something "finished".

Totally understandable, and in fact my own submission can easily be cheesed too, haha. A week or so is no time at all!
