I know it looks like Thomas Was Alone, that's one of my favourite games. But seriously, this was actually rather cathartic to make, so thanks for the opportunity

Aww, this was super sweet. I really enjoyed it.

It was fun, but I didn't really see the magical realism here. Some of the jumps were really frustrating, and punitive. For the story, I have to admit I had to relaunch the game because I didn't have the time to read all, as it was disappearing. Maybe let the player see the text when he is overlapping the fire camp could be great. Overall, the gameplay is nice, it was fun to play and I enjoyed it ! Congrats !

Fun game!  I liked the story and liked that the game was a nice concise little package.   Nice story that was engaging. Player controller felt good too.  I found the level design slightly frustrating though.  Some of the jumps were "leaps of faith" as you couldn't see where the next platform was.  This mixed with the punishment of missing them and having to traverse areas you'd already passed was a little frustrating but more of a minor annoyance than an actual issue with the game.  I was definitely intrigued enough to push through and see the ending.

This seemed like a super personal, quietly beautiful project. Game jam or no, the world needs more of these.

Unfortunately, I found the platforming to be super frustrating. Every time you miss a jump, it's all the way back to the beginning, but you often have to jump somewhere offscreen, so it's really hard to judge jumps, so I lost progress often. The writing was excellent, and I wish I was able to see all of it.

I see the inspiration in the 2 indie Thomas's (Thomas Was Alone and Thomas Brush with his deep and emotional bouncy ball) and I think you combined them pretty well and gave it your own style. The best part for me was how satisfying it feels to control, you did amazing with that. Didn't really see the magical realism too much, but the story was nice. Congratulations on finishing your game :D

Pros

  • Gameplay is really satisfying and relaxing! Some jumps were a bit challening but not to the point of being frustating.
  • The simplistic visuals and art style work perfectly!
  • Very interesting story. I like they way the plot is revealed through the bonfires.
  • Epic music!

Cons

  • I'd argue that the theme was not used very accordingly. I can't really say I perceived magical realism in there.

Overall: very short and simple but fun game! Very relaxing and satisfying experience!
