Use of the limitation
We used a D20 as the main trigger for the chain of events. On a good roll, the creepy stuff that goes bump in the night is nothing to be scared of. On a bad roll, it's exactly what you're afraid of and you have to race your way home.

How was your experience with Mini Jam?
STRESSFUL. But amazing to work with a team of people instead of on my own. My teammate and I both agree that we overscoped ourselves and would like want to take on a little less so we could polish it up more. The best thing is proving to yourself what you're capable of in such a short amount of time.

You can really feel dreadful with this one. Good job making the visual and sound. Keep it up!

The art style, and the game concept were enjoyable, but the roll low and die concept just didn't really hit for me... would of been nice to have a handful of rolls so you progressively lead to a lose condition, instead of that first single roll ending your game session. The controls did help with the feeling of your protagonist having to really put in effort to maintain speed. As well the overall setting really did give off a an eerie vibe which was very fun.

I like the game's overall style and concept.

Nice look and feel! I got scared something was gonna pop out of nowhere, then just the dice shows up. Could use a restart button, though!

The controls were really innovative!

looks really beautiful, but unfortunately the die didn't show any numbers for me (on latest chrome on windows), i don't think it's supposed to be that way? anyhow, i immediately died a few cycles after the roll all the time :D (when the car drove by).

Developer

Thanks for playing! I just updated it so the dice has numbers now :)

Props for trying out a less than common system (the cycling).

About the rolling, it falls into the tabletop issue of "Roll high win and keep playing, roll low instantly die". I'm not sure if there's a "speed" system in place where going faster makes rolls better (it does say you shouldn't slow down). I was so bad at the cycling it could have been that instead of bad luck.

Developer

We thought about maybe your rolls determine your speed, but the inverse that you suggested is an interesting idea! It would definitely help motivate people to get good at the cycling mechanic.

Well it took me a while to master the mashing I was crawling painfully along for some time lol. I had to go back and try again once I read about some of what to look forward too. I did manage to die so that was cool, but it was just a *Spoilers* ........... hoon who drove up alongside me. So maybe a drive by? looked fantastic would of liked to have travelled further and seen some other stuff (more horrors). Probably a bit more inner narrative from the player would help the ambience.

Developer

Haha yeah I agree, would have loved to get some more narrative going in game. Something to try out next time!
