Enjoyed doing this! And just a note to anyone reading my critiques of their games in comments: You may safely assume that whenever I'm critiquing anything, anything I didn't specifically critique was engaging/enjoyable.

This would have been so much better if not for the difficulty spikes. Ended up giving up in the tall vertical shaft with spike balls and platforms on both sides. Felt like I needed to come back later, but I couldn’t leave the area.

Yeah, we'll be addressing that in the Super-MVM version. Thanks for playing!

I liked the graphics, everything was quite clear and looked nice. my biggest criticism the controls and movement felt way too slow running back after dieing was quite frustrating, and I died a lotI liked the story of having to rescue your family as well, and the idea of playing as the different characters/family members with their own abilities.

Thanks for playing, and thanks for the feedback!

Nice game! I thought the graphics were attractive and the music was good, as far as 8-bit style goes. The rooms were fun to figure out & the mechanics were good. I got myself killed a few times by jumping in the middle of mom's dash accidentally, but since you need to jump out of the dash later on, it's OK.

I have some of the same crticism others gave - faster walking or a run button, faster character switching, & the room before the 4th kid is too hard. I was lucky enough not to land on a checkpoint when missing jumps in the final area, but that seems like a big issue. I'd suggest making that impossible by putting a tile right above the checkpoints in that area, or just changing them in some other way, like requiring a button press to use them.

My other biggest issue was the checkpoint placement. In both of the hardest parts, the checkpoint was in a place where you have to do a little boring footwork before the actual hard challenge. If the checkpoint was directly before the hard part, it wouldn't be as annoying. There was also at least one optional item that looked dangerous to get, but the nearest checkpoint was very far away. I would've loved to try to collect all the items, but it's not worth it if you lose a significant amount of progress by trying.

I really liked a couple small things. Getting to keep the collectables after dying was really nice. I really liked the aesthetics of the collectables in general, especially with them all being unique. It made me want to try to get them all.

Having the kids be right next to a spot where you need their ability was a smart way to let you know how to use them without actually needing instructions. Having the slime-swimming kid be green was also good.

I would love to play an expanded version, so good luck continuing the game!

Oh, one more thing I should mention. I am not a fan of how you jump over and over if you hold down the jump button. I think most people dislike that considering how rare it is in 2D platformers. It wasn't a big deal at all but I would certainly recommend changing it.

Thank you for the feedback, Azecy. This is all great stuff. We do plan on doing another build. Hoping to have it out by mid February. We will take this feedback and incorporate it for sure. So glad you enjoyed the game!

This is a fantastic game, though not without its problems. There are some huge difficulty spikes (especially the area to the left of the starting point), and the character's movement speed as well as the animation of switching characters could be a bit faster, but I really enjoyed it nonetheless.

Thanks for the feedback. We are looking to push another update out for this by mid February so this is all great feedback we hope to iron out in the next build.

I did it! 7/13 items. Got to start another playthrough.

Really fun game. I think the character switching is quite fun. I like the animations. The characters are cute.

The jumping challenge at the end was really tricky and falling onto another checkpoint was anoying. But I had a lot of fun figuring it out.

The music is not my type i guess.

Great work!

like the art especially the animations

the map layout (with all the collectibles) and the dash ability were great
i did think the difficulty of the room before the final character was a bit much
and falling from the end of the game down into a check point near the beginning was annoying
everything else felt pretty on point
really nice game overall

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah. We are definitely hoping to smooth out those difficulty spikes in our next update.

I really liked this game!  From the character animations to the music and mechanic of switching characters to solve the puzzle of getting through an area.  It felt like it all fit the game.  It is a little difficult in places.  The checkpoints help with that, for sure.

Although, I didn't make it all the way through, it would be interesting to see if some rooms could make use of multiple abilities to solve a bigger puzzle to unlock a chamber or something...where you have to find those characters before that puzzle can be solved.  That's how I imagine the ending would be.

Awesome work!

Thank you so much for the kind words. We had a lot of fun making it and are hoping to put out an update by mid February! Stay tuned!

Man, this one is tricky! I managed to collect all of the characters... and I feel like I was close to finishing the content you have, but not quite.

The game is difficult for sure, but I found that most of the challenges were conquer able after a few tries. The check points were also spaced pretty fairly I thought.

So, the abilities were all easy, and useful, but the purple/pink characters jump dash combo was the most fun. It was also the most difficult to make use of, since it is by far the most active ability. I think in the long run the jumping challenges towards the end were a bit on the difficult side, which is where I stopped (for now). But I don’t completely hate the challenge... just wasn’t able to withstand it, haha.

The music was awesome! The sound effects were fine. They were probably great as far as matching the gameplay and style, but there were a few that were a bit too loud in my opinion. I guess mostly the switching character effect?

Great job!

Thanks for the feedback! Much appreciated!

Pretty cool little Metroidvania. I got stuck after getting 3 characters. I'm not sure if I was supposed to keep jumping and dashing from side to side while avoiding the spikes in that long vertical tunnel with platforms and spikes on both sides or if I missed something before that part. I wasn't sure what the objects I collected did. It was generally a pretty fun little game though, considering there was only a month to build it. I do really wish the character speed was a little faster by default or that there was a run button. I really really liked the character switching and different abilities for the different characters.

So in that same basic column there should be a couple sections like that. You're on the right track, but I apologize for "that one room."
