How does your game fit the Magical Girl genre?
This game has three Magical Girl characters. The lead character Chiyoko fights with a magical staff and a magic crystal with protection and healing powers. Aside from the characters, the game was created to be a classic "Magical Girl" story, in which a teenaged girl must juggle her home and school life while working to increase her magic powers. Game also contains magical girl tropes such as the power of friendship, magical changing clothes, and talking cats.
Which theme(s) do you pick?
Pandora Paradoxxx, Recollect Lines (Story only, not in the demo,) World Vanquisher, Grievous Lady, Freedom Dive (Story only, not in the demo,) Unknown X
How does your game fit those theme(s)?
The main villainess is a Grievous Lady. The Devourer Queen acts like royalty and violently punishes those subordinates who fail her (She also has four arms, like General Grievous.) She is also a World Vanquisher, as she devours the entire Life Force of every planet she visits, not only killing everything, but removing it all from the timeline so it never existed at all. Several characters have escaped this fate by following her into her extratemporal dimension (taking a Freedom Dive, so to speak.) In doing so, they become Paradoxes, beings that exist without pasts or homeworlds. One of these characters is a Magical Girl that no one knows (Unknown X) who works for the Devourer Queen, but eventually questions her loyalty when she begins having flashbacks of her old life (Recollect Lines.) (Unfortunately, not all of this made it into the demo for this game jam.)
If you follow any of the optional challenges, elaborate as you like.
The Devourer Queen's first incursion takes place in a Laundromat, and that's about as close to any of the challenges I got, unfortunately.
Were the assets for your game made during the jam? Elaborate as you see fit.

I really liked the tone, the retro-style visuals and the mechanics are fun!

Wow. Did you really make all this in one month!? This is a very high quality submission; and despite being only a demo it was definitely far longer than what is expected from a jam game.
It has got great aesthetics, fantastic music, and the gameplay overall is also pretty polished. Some dialogues need some proofreading, but otherwise this is one insanely high quality game. If you decide to continue this project, I hope you will post updates in the discord.
Thank you very much for giving such high effort in our humble jam o7
Thanks for checking out my game, and for hosting this game-jam! I was wanting to make a magical girl story for a long time, so when I found out about this jam I kinda went all out. I've already started on a post-game-jam demo, which fixes some of the issues and adds some stuff that didn't make it in. I'd be happy to post updates on the discord, and I look forward to participating in the next game-jam as well!
such a fun game and really impressive amount of work for the jam!! would love to see it as a complete game because the characters and gameplay are really engaging so far. i really like having the day-to-day choices of activities affecting the character's stats and abilities.
I also like how the style, colors and character designs capture the late-90's anime atmosphere. the game really feels vintage and classic. one of my favorites of the jam!! great work!
I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'm working on the game for the Continue-It Jam, so I'm hoping to complete it someday. I'm still working out a better implementation of the daily activities in the game, so that aspect of it should improve!
I'm not really a fan of turn-based gameplay, but this is a really good game! I really liked the writing, especially Winston. I hope this goes somewhere. Traditional magical girls are hard to come by these days.
Thanks for checking it out! Winston was definitely the most fun-to-write character in anything I've done so far. 🤣
Love the game and would love to play full version when available.
Thanks a lot! I'm looking forward to working more on this project!
This is my favourite one of this entire jam. I LOVE the retro adventure game influence, I'd love to play more of this. The writing is on point too, it feels like I'm watching an actual 90s Magical Girl show. If you're gonna keep working on this, I hope I can play it someday.
Thanks a lot! I did my best to format it like a classic (pre-Madoka) Magical Girl show, even though I've never seen one 🤣! I'm really hoping I'll be able to continue working on the project, because it's been a lot of fun!
Beautiful Madoka quotes refences :D
I hope the cat is good this time.Finished!
I really like it a lot, i hope to see more about it in the future!
There were a couple direct quote references for fun, but I'm sure Madoka's influence seeped into more corners of this project than I realize since it's the only Magical Girl show I've seen.
It looks very, very polished but I was too bored during the dialogue to get to the main aspects of the game. Really great music in here and the art is on point!
Thanks for checking it out! Yeah, it's basically a visual novel so there's a lot of dialogue. Could probably be edited or trimmed down in places, but I kinda ran out of time.
For what it's worth, the visual novel part was my favourite part about the game, especially the funny moments with the Winstons. My only complaint is with the battles; I died during my first attempt against the Emerald Knight, and had to redo the whole day + the few battles before it, since I don't think there's a way to save just before the battles?
There isn't a way to save due to RPG Maker MZ's handling of Message Boxes. You can't really do anything during a sequence of messages other than press ENTER or ESC, both of which just go on to the next message. Adding a SAVE menu during the day kind of throws off the pacing, but I might consider adding them in places. Other than that, I'm thinking I'll either add a "RETRY" option after a bad ending, or just make it so there are no bad endings and have the game continue after losing the battle (Winston intervenes and saves you, Chiyoko blacks out and unleashes some crazy latent power and drives the enemy away, etc) I was moving towards the latter solution, but burned out and ran out of time.
