Themes
No optional themes, I had an idea and stick with it. Also, I didn't know the Jam was happening until it was half way through so only had a week to work on this,

Tools
Construct 3 + Aseprite. Both are very good for small projects like this!.

Lessons
My own challenge for this jam was dealing with AI for enemies. It was one of the first times that actually worked. (lol)

Don't know if its a bug but I got stuck in the room where the first key is.

Oh, this is nice! Especially for just one week! It’s a shame it’s not 64x64 pixel resolution, but this really is beautifully done.

Pretty fun! Awesome you were able to build in skills. There wasn’t a lot of feedback when striking bosses so I didn’t know if I was doing anything.

Now thats a proper game!

The game seems unfinished. Goblins moving through walls, the minibosses not really doing anything but being big (the knight didn't even have sound as far as I could tell), finding the hostages has no influence on the player whatsoever. The stats are very unbalanced, I had so much health and potions that I didn't even watch the traps anymore but just went through. Once you find the sword circle skill you already have so much stamina that you can just spam it whenever you hear goblins spawn. And the actual thing the game is supposed to be about and named after, slaying the king, isn't even in the game as you just won when you enter his room (which you know because it says so on the floor, the game just continues).

I like the sprites and the general idea, while nothing original, is good, but the game needs some work.

Then again I often enough ran into the trap of setting way too large scopes for game jam ideas myself, so this is not unfamiliar :D

Incredible scope, a fully fledged adventure with upgrades, skills, a map, objectives, a whole dungeon to explore and some cool scripted events. Very impressive!

My only feedback would be is that there's some misaligned movement going on, not strictly keeping to the 64x64 size limit.

Way cool! And so much detail!

I had to give just 1 star for Authenticity though, because you have sprites moving freely in a framebuffer much larger than 64x64, sorry for being pedantic about that.

The only important thing missing here is gamepad support. Any plans to add that after the jam?

Developer

You mean the game screen? it is 64x64 :o! Or do you mean the frame on the game page?

If the game do well I may actually implement controller support :) , I just didn't do it duo to a lack of time.
