Hi people!

Once again, we've brought onboard a group of experienced game developers and tech developers who're happy to offer their advice and perspectives to participants across the jam. You can find them in Discord, and can ask questions by tagging the "@mentors" role, or by mentioning any of them individually, and they'll do their best to answer when they're around (with everybody spread across the globe, we don't have a set time that people will be around for, but people are aiming to try to be available once a day across the course of the jam).

Mentor advice threads:

jotson

John began his career as a programmer but found games as a unique way to combine his interests in music, art, and programming. Commercial game credits include Gravity Ace (2022) and Dome Keeper (2023).

John currently makes all of his games with Godot Game Engine. As a (mostly) solo dev he can help with programming, shaders, pixel art, 3D, music, and sound. He's a huge nerd and has an education in engineering, physics, and mathematics.

You can find jotson on Mastodon, Twitch, and his website

Akien

Rémi Verschelde (Akien) is the project manager and maintainer of Godot Engine, the free and open source 2D and 3D game engine. He is a long term contributor to Free and Open Source projects, including the Mageia Linux distribution since 2010, and various libre games such as Lugaru, OpenDungeons or Jump 'n Bump. Playing games exclusively on Linux since 2005, he's always happy to help indie developers willing to support this marvelous platform. Open to any questions regarding FOSS, licensing, Linux gaming or Godot Engine. French guy living in Denmark (he/him).

You can find Akien on Mastodon, Twitter and Github

Trevor Powell

Trevor is a twenty year veteran of the games industry, now running his own small indie studio.  He specialises in C/C++, SDL, OpenGL, build automation, game cameras, and almost every aspect of game feel.  Usually can be found staring at multiple monitors each containing full-screen terminals, which he does only partially because it intimidates his co-workers.  Usual toolchain:  dwm, vim, cmake, gdb. [he/him]

You can find Trevor on Mastodon, Twitter, and you can find VectorStorm's game on their website

StraToN

Julian Murgia (StraToN) is a long-term contributor to Godot Engine, the free and open source 2D and 3D game engine. He is also the lead developer and maintainer of the Escoria project which helps game developers to create point and click adventure games with Godot Engine. He has been using Linux since 2007, primarily hacking around to be able to play his favorite games. A few years later he kept close to FOSS communities (especially Godot Engine) and enjoys helping indie devs creating games on this wonderful platform. Open to any questions regarding point and click games, Godot Engine and Escoria framework. French baguette from France :) (he/him)

You can find StraTon on Mastodon and the Escoria Github page

kubecz3k

My name is Jakub, I'm a co-founder of kivano.games - we created and released couple of mobile and PC games. I'm also a Godot Engine contributor and heavy engine user. I will try to answer some Godot related questions during the jam :D Have fun everyone!

You can find kubecz3k on Mastodon and Twitter, and you can find Kivano games on Discord and their website

Cheeseness

Cheeseness is a Linux based game developer/artist/writer/everything else, who makes his own games as well as taking on freelance work and the odd porting job. His current major project is a palaeontology themed take on Minesweeper where excavated fossils can be assembled into skeletons between digs. He's super enthusiastic about helping others and can't wait to see what comes out of this year's Linux Game Jam (he/him)

You can find Cheese on Mastodon/Twitter, some of his games on itch and some of his writing at cheesetalks.net
