  • Music - I like the vibe of this, feeling a clear "round start" and then action beginning. Good vibe throughout. I would like a second section in here, just to break it up a bit. There are interludes where the main melodic bit isn't happening, and that helps for sure! But, trying to imagine a 10-20 minute round with this music, and I think a second section (either with a different tonal center or different groove) could open it up a bit and let it breathe. Really nice work SFX - Bites - The bites are good, but maybe too...big? Could be a little shorter or Moans - I think the variety is good, not all low and rumbly. They might be a little long (I'm assuming each moan would be its own file) and "melty"? Squishy - This is squishy alright. Thanks!
  • Music is super eerie! And that slow build into a rock song was unexpected but I dig it. the BITE sound was chilling, gave a tiny bit of apple vibes so if tweaked slightly it might be more effective. The moans could be a bits shorter, depending on the purpose, but I did like their inclusion in the music piece.

As an old-school rock chick, I really liked this one. More electric guitars in game music, please. I also liked the vocals at the beginning. I thought the hook was a little too repetitive, though; I would have liked more variation.

This song is great! Reminded me a lot of Thriller, haha. I loved the way you had the necromancer rising a creature at the beginning, almost like the very beginning clip before the title screen. The strings during that section are SUPER ominous and pretty much PERFECT for this prompt. Then it gets upbeat with still that evil tension in the strings and the ominous cat, crow, and zombie sounds in the background. Love, love, love it. My only critiques for the piece would be that the music feels a little stagnant in the middle where it is repeating. I would play around a little bit with dynamics and texture to keep your audience engaged even during repetitions. Additionally, it was hard to tell at first that the word being said was "Rise" because the "s" was edited in a funky way. I would recommend making a strong "z" sound in the mic when recording yourself saying "rise." When we speak, it naturally sounds more like "rize" anyway, so it should help offset the hissing air sound you are recording in the mic.

I like the idea of the bites SFX, but it sounds much more like someone crunching an apple than zombie crunching on flesh or bone (if that was more your intention). Maybe sound editing could help with this, but I do not know enough about it myself to give any practical suggestions, haha. The moans were fantastic. Love the layering of different tones. It must have been fun to record, haha. Finally, the squishing sound totally grossed me out, so great if you are looking for walking in the mud or a slime sound. I still feel chills going down my spine.

Great work on this!

I like your drum beats. If this the music was for while you are playing, I think the moans sound effects should not be included in the music, as it might confuse the player with summoning minions or whatever the moans would be used for. But I am imagining an intro cinematic for the first 30 seconds with the title appearing when the synthesizer kicks in, and possibly different music when playing the game.

For the SFX, I think they are too long, when triggering a SFX, I want one good one. Possibly consider layering some together for one more complex sound?

Bold choice with the vocal intro! It is a very fun main theme. My only comment is that the drum beat seems to come out of nowhere! A little more introduction, maybe a short fill would be better served here as an introduction to the drums, especially as the pattern doesn't change for the rest of the song. The bassline makes my head bob, and the melody feels super epic and I like that it is echoed in the beginning on the bass. The sound effects are great, I can tell that you had a lot of fun making them! Overall very nice work!

My thoughts --

  • The music was deeply foreboding and the mixing choices here made my spine tingle with dread. When all the other instruments came along, it was great in a retro, unexpected sort of way, and it still conveyed the sense of urgency, dread and unstoppable nature of the swarm.
    • It fits a more modern setting in most cases, but then on the flipside, you have games like Simon the Sorcerer that blend fantasy with modern music, so I'm saying that it fits based on just that fact alone.
    • Only comment I have on this is that it doesn't feel varied enough for a long level (considering this is an RTS), but I would think that fragment enough to dramatically influence the time period, look, and even feel of the game. Stellar job.
  • The bites were, again, spine-tinglingly good.
  • The moans felt a touch cliché zombie survival to me considering I'll have heard similar sounds in a lot of games (the background rumbling immediately calls to mind a lot of previous games).
    • That said, they were well mixed, and I felt the care put into them (I presume that you did those moans in various pitches; if so, nice touch).
  • The squishes felt nondescript to me, but I suppose in the right context and with the right amount of mixing (and possibly warmth), they could depict ooze, entrails, or that scourge that the undead are spreading across the land.
    • Again, this was really well put together and I felt the care that went into this.

Well done, and all the best in this jam. That you did this in such a short span of time is worth noting, and I feel you should be proud.
