I used to play a lot of the lego games as a kid, so this was pretty nostalgic for me. I had a lot of fun playing it, the building, movement and shooting mechanics all felt solid, as did the whole theme. I did find myself wondering around at times and thought that some red arrows around the edges of the screen that indicated the direction that enemies where located would've been handy. But it was fun just zooming into them and being out gunned haha. Nice work!
Thank you for your comment. I am glad I could give you some nostalgia. Regarding your suggestion, I am going to add indicators in the future, which should hopefully also help balancing. Again, thanks for playing and taking the time to comment :)
I love the aesthetic of the game! Being able to build next to the things I already built was something I didn't expect, and I really appreciate that mechanic. The movement is also quite nice and feels like it would be a Lego since the directional keys only turned the player rather than moved it in that direction. I think the main thing that wasn't mentioned is having the arrow (the one that points which way you're facing) visible no matter what. I noticed the arrow would be blocked by my turrets and such, so putting it on a different layer like UI would probably help. Other than that, really nice job!
Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, I will try to add some sort of indicator in the future that shows where the player is currently facing.
Very creative use of the theme! Love building as you go and the whole Lego aesthetic, very clean!
I have a couple of critiques, it would be nice if each block had some kind of visual indication of how damaged they are so I know if they are in danger of being destroyed. The bots shooting at you from off screen especially when they have a lot of turrets can feel a little unfair maybe a zoom out could help with this? The last thing is that the UI while very nice aesthetically takes up a bit too much space on the screen it becomes very difficult to see if another vehicle comes from below.
As a suggestion: It could be quite fun if there were random power-up blocks across the map making you want to explore more! Overall though solid idea, enjoyed playing it and hope you had fun making it too! Well done!
Yes, the balancing is off. I do plan to add a radar in the next update and also zoom out the camera some more. The UI is also getting changed.
Thanks for the feedback and the ideas. The different power-up blocks are actually super interesting. I'm not totally sure what they could be, but I like it.
Love the Lego theme :D
The difficulty of finding the right enemies to fight has already been mentioned, but other than that I really like it!
Thanksss! I really appreciate you taking the time to play my game.
As a big LEGO fan I love the idea! Very nice concept with building your machine from blocks . The only con for me is that it is really hard to get away from stronger enemy. I would really like to see how it turns to bigger project with more parts to use.
Thanks man! Yeah, the balancing is off, but there's already a lot of things planned to fix it. Again, thanks for playing!
Very cool concept, and well polished visuals. Keep up the good work!
Thanks you! I really appreciate it! :)
Super fun game! The sound design is super satisfying, and the gameplay loop is solid. The one real criticism that I'd have is that there's no real way to know where enemies are, so you spend a lot of time just wandering around trying to find things to fight. Maybe a minimap or a enemy compass could be nice.
Overall, really fun, fits the theme well, feels snappy and good to control, really cool entry!
Yes, I am going to implement a radar in the next update that shows the position and size of the enemies. This should also go a long way toward helping balance the game.
Thanks for the feedback! (If anyone reads this, go play his game now, it's sick)
What a fun game! The adrenaline rush you get when you encounter an enemy, and the actual satisfaction of defeating them, so good. Something you could add though is to make the player able to not have a full reset when they die, and instead still have some of their legos, making it feel like all the playthroughs are more connected :)
That's actually a great idea that I haven't thought of so far. Thanks!
Np! :D
I really like your super cute take on the theme. I died instantly a few times, but after reading the comments I tried some more and found some less deadly enemies and was able to progress and have a lot of fun building my giant lego death machine.
Some ideas that I have, since I see you want to expand this game, are making the time to kill longer (so that you aren't destroyed instantly, and can more strategically target specific sections of enemies or decide to run away) and zooming out the camera when not in build mode, because a lot of my engagements happened at the very edges of my screen.
Great job with the jam, and I'm happy you're expanding it! :D
Thanks for the awesome ideas! I currently have a lot of stuff planned to expand the game.
I will definitely increase the camera size and also the player's health to make the fights last longer, because that's where all the action is.
I also plan on adding a radar that shows where enemies are and their strength.
Thanks for taking the time to comment :)
