LOL I love the walk cycle, he looks really fun! It's a fun idea, and I hope you're able to develop it further, there's a lot of promise to it. Thanks for sharing your work on this game in the jam!
And if you haven't had a chance to check out my game Foxy Boom Boxy, I would appreciate any feedback, thanks!
Thank you for your kind comment.
I love the idea it very nice and fun and it fit the theme
I would appreciate to see your feedback on my game
Got to level 4. The back and fourth of the lights is a solid start.
Very nice game! I really liked the player's walking animation lol. I wasn't able to get past the second level even as I turned the lights on and off as the ghosts seemed to spawn and move too quickly. However, I can definitely see this being polished and improved with more time!
I'm not sure if the game is too hard or too easy.. I quickly lost on my first 2 tries; then it was almost impossible for ghosts to catch me once I figured out they don't move when the lights are off. Anyway, overall a good game and the graphics are enjoyable :)
I think that there is a bit too many ghosts. On the first level I did just fine but from the second level I felt that it was almost impossible not to walk straight into a ghost. I will say though that it is nice that you went with your own art-style, a lot of people who aren't artists use generic sprites from asset packs often completely mismatched together, not that there is anything wrong with using asset packs, it just lacks personality a lot of the time. At least here even though it isn't the prettiest thing there is personality to it, and I just wanted to give you kudos for that
Thank you for your engaging comment. Thank you very much for the comment on assets. It really makes it more enjoyable to make all assets by yourself even if they lack the professional quality. I must admit that the ghost count was quite hard to balance as it can get too easy. With the turn on/off lights mechanic, ghosts should not be a big problem in level 2. But it gets really harder in Levels 4 and 5. The difficulty spike had to be too steep as there are only 5 levels to play.
I totally get it. Translating difficulty to engagement is a hard thing to master and it can require a lot of play-testing with other people to get right, which can be really time consuming during a jam
I just kept dying over and over fairly quickly, didn't make for a very fun experience. The hit box on the main character seemed abnormally large...? Can't give it much feedback since I didn't experience much of it!
I tried to keep it as small as possible, but there could've been more polishing indeed. Did you use the lights off feature to stop the ghosts?
Good game! But I would recommend putting a cooldown on the ability to turn the lights on and off.
Thank you for the comment. I agree that there so much to polish and ability cool down one of them.
Respect the fact that it was all made by yourself, graphics and tunes included! Game-wise speaking, shouldn't the ghost appear during night time and not vice-versa? Kinda makes more sense and there could have been a light-themed mechanic where they're scared with light resources, that would have helped with the On-Off theme of the jam. Nice job notheless!
Thank you very much for the kind comments. I wanted to subvert the norms by making the ghosts afraid of darkness. That is why they freeze when it's dark. This is why the hero is collecting night vision goggles so that humans can live in darkness. It also helped with the darkness gameplay as everything becomes invisible and makes it a challenge to move around without hitting any ghosts or ectoplasm pools.
The contrast between the ghosts/traps, the floors, and the walls made it very easy to intake the necessary visual information very quickly. I also liked leading the ghosts around into desirable arrangements.
The transition from light to dark could be a tad smoother, at least by a handful of frames. The sudden jump began to be a bit eye-straining towards the end.
Good work!
Thank you very much for the detailed comment, I agree that dark-light transitions need some polishing.
Good and original idea. Fairly easy until the 4th level, which is very difficult.
Thank you very much for the comment, there is indeed a difficulty spike due to limited 5-level count.
Very nice! Made sure to give a rating
Can you check out my game too?
Good game, but I don't think it is match the theme of the game jam. Good try!
Thank you for the feedback, but why do you think it doesn't match the genre? It's mostly about turning ON and OFF the lights.
Probably it is my fault, I finished the level without turning on and off the lights :D
I revisited your game and noticed the option to toggle the lights on and off. However, I'm a bit puzzled about their purpose since I was able to complete the level without utilizing that mechanic. While it's a good game overall, I'd suggest looking into enhancing the graphics and sound to elevate the overall experience based on this feedback.
It's impossible to finish the higher levels without the feature though. First level is sort of an introduction. I agree there are so much to improve with audio and graphics, along with other things. But such is the thing with a Jam game.
