Really good game! Good puzzle design and really fun mechanics. I'm sometimes getting a bit confused with the way controls work, but I guess it's mostly me. Sometimes it's really hard to tell the position of each block or moving platform, but I assume that was part of the original design, right? If there's anything lacking at the moment for me, it's option to restart the level from any point without need to make a wrong move and some undo feature, so in case of a wrong move a player can revert back instead of needing to restart the whole level. With that what would feel to me like a full feature project! (I didn't finish it yet, so I don't know how much levels there are, but I've just got to the first mirror level).

Amazing work!

Thanks a lot!

Well, it's partly part of the original design, and partly not :p I wanted to provide some "3d illusions" and have some mystery as to what's in the level and where, but currently there is too much of that "mystery" and I agree that it's sometimes hard to tell what's going on. I've been thinking a lot about possible solutions, so I'll surely be fixing that, just didn't have time to do so before the jam deadline!

An undo system is also a very good idea.

In case you want to know: there are currently 13 levels, but I plan on turning this game into a full feature project, in which case it will probably end up having like 20-30 levels :)

Thanks again for the kind words and the great feedback!

Love the intro.  For some reason I couldn't get past the second level.  I tried to make red fall on top of purple, and purple fall on top of red, but it didn't appear that they were falling into each other's arms.   5/5 for music and aesthetic.  The game was very captivating.  Also 5/5 for adding instructions to the screen.

Developer

Thank you! But that's very strange ... that level has never failed in all my testing.

What it might be, though, is that there's a detail I might not have explained well enough: you need at least one block of (vertical) distance to actually "fall" on top of the other player. Otherwise, you just stand/walk on top of the other player. Does that help? I would love for you to be able to get past level 2 :)

I got stuck on level 9, mostly because of the 3D "illusions".

Gameplay

Pretty much perfect, good UI, well explained gameplay, very interesting puzzles and mechanics. It took a bit of time to get used to left/right hand controls especially when the characters are on the right/left sides, maybe switch them up so they're always on the "right" side?

Graphics

Art is really good, but I faced one major issue with the graphics: it's often impossible to determine if something is actually in front of something! I got stuck on level 9, mostly because often I ended up falling into the void where I thought I would just go down one block. Making the camera movable with the mouse might help, but I think you need to think the design better, maybe with shades of blocks depending on the layer. I'd be happy to give feedback on a future update!

Audio

Perfect. Great soundtrack, unexpected but highly appreciated voiceover in the intro, and just the right about of sound feedback on actions. If I had to nitpick on one thing it'd be the button hover sound, slightly too "strong", but really everything about the game's atmosphere is perfect.

Innovation

Again, perfect. This is a great single player game that accidentally doubles as a sweet co-op game, with very interesting mechanics and constraints and the idea of falling into the other's arms is adorable.

Theme interpretation

3 stars because I couldn't find a link to the theme, but I feel like there's one, somehow.

Developer

Thank you so much, what an amazing and detailed feedback :)

I also thought about switching the controls to always be on the "right" side, but it would probably be very confusing, especially if players are really close to each other ... The controls would swap continuously as players switch sides! Can still give it a try, though.

Yes! Not being able to see when something is in front of something is also my major issue. Your idea about painting blocks depending on the layer also crossed my mind: I think it's possible to make that look good with some shader magic, so I will try that once the game jam is over. Moving the camera isn't possible unfortunately, because the game is completely 2D and there is no camera :p

Haha I do agree the connection to the theme is a loose one. Leaps and bounds => players must take a LEAP of faith, and they are BOUNDED by what the other player can see.

Again, thanks a lot for this response, seriously made my day.

You're welcome :)

Regarding controls, what I meant was switch the characters at the beginning of the levels only. Many times I started a level with the wrong character falling in the void, if they always started with purple/wasd on the left side and pink/arrows on the right side, it'd be easier to start the levels.

Hope you can figure out something to help the 3D visualisation !

This is a really cool game, I love the style and the puzzles are really engaging. Every now and then I could feel inputs being ignored or duplicated which was frustrating, I would want to turn 90 degrees but would turn 180 instead and accidentally see the other cubito :(

Still, had lots of fun playing it, great job!

Developer

Thanks a lot! And yes, that is a known bug: on some devices, sometimes, you suddenly turn twice. It has frustrated me for days, but I just cannot find the source of the issue. Hopefully one day soon I will solve it :)

Hi, I played the game and this is my review of it. Let's start off by saying that i like the idea behind this, the graphics are simplistic but well made and the music is a nice touch. The level design is tricky, but i did get stuck at level two. All and all this is a pretty good entry for me. Well done.

Developer

Thanks! Do you mean that you couldn't get past level two? Or that you got stuck temporarily, but managed to solve it and progress? (If it's the first case, then I surely need to create a less steep difficulty curve.)

Oh and, I'll play and rate your game as soon as I get home tonight, it's at the top of my list :)

Yes sadly i got stuck at the second level. I don't know the reason behind it but I couldn't "fall into the arms" of my counterpart.  Then again i'm not good with puzzles.. :(

Your game is very interesting. I like seeing a unique interpretation of the theme 'leaps and bounds'.

I think the game would benefit from being a bit quicker with movements having a little more snap because when puzzles become a little more difficult it can start to become frustrating when everything you do executes slowly. That frustration would be decreased quite a bit if everything felt more responsive.

Overall I really like this. I think this game has a lot of potential.

Also, the intro scene was great too!

Developer

Thanks a lot for the great feedback! I initially slowed down the movements to give the game a more "relaxing feel", but I can totally see how that becomes frustrating. Will surely make it snappier when I update the game. And yes, I too see some potential, so I hope to expand on the game once the jam is over and add more levels/mechanics :)

I really like your game! It's fun, it has a good gamedesign and a beutiful soundtrack.

Good job!
