Great game! I got stuck in the same place as Xed, which was unfortunate. I really loved the atmosphere, the game was very immersive. I actually liked the text-to-speech voiceovers. There were some times that the voices were glitching though.
Thanks for the feedback.
Yeah we noticed the bug immediately on publishing but it was too late to fix. We have uploaded a updated version of the game with bug fixes and skippable dialogue for Indiepocalype so if you are interested after the Jam if over feel free to check it out: https://lordbundee.itch.io/fate-of-the-baychimo.
Happy New Year dude I wish you success in game development
Like a cross between Tacoma, Alien, and Return of the Obra Dinn. I did pretty well in my investigation, I think. Mostly had it right. One touch I especially liked was the venting gas particle effect. One little bug, I was too slow to enter the cockpit the first time, and the door closed and locked me, so I had to restart the game. Not a biggie though.
I also went browsing for speech-to-text voices for my entry, as you probably noticed. Which did you guys go with?
Thanks for the feedback. I'll look into the issue with the cockpit when I get a chance. For the character voices we used Replica studios. They have a fair few AI voice actors to choose from and worked pretty well for us. They have a free period if you want to use something similar in the future.
We were able to fix this bug for our Indiepocalypse submission - so thanks for the feedback. If you are interested in checking it out after the Jam it is available at https://lordbundee.itch.io/fate-of-the-baychimo.
Great mystery gameplay and graphics. I especially like the sense of immersion in the game with the flickering lights, detailed sound effects, and even the camera bobbing up and down as the player is walking. I agree with the previous comment about skippable (or fast-forward-able) audio improving the gameplay. Also with as much immersion as this game has, have you considered releasing a VR version?
We're glad you liked it. We spent a lot of time specifically focusing on the immersion and sound aspects to add more 'JUICE' to the game. This is something we often have neglected in the past so we're happy it seems to have paid off.
The idea of an investigator uncovering the fate of the crew is a good one. I was able to determine several of the fates, but got to a point where one of the blood-interaction points wouldn't give me the info for that location. (There's a cryo pod in that room)
I think skippable audio would improve gameplay a little. I had to replay the audio after the first encounter when I learned I needed to pay attention to everything. :)
Thanks for the feedback, we hope you enjoyed playing despite the issues. Unfortunately we found the bug with this blood point after the jam deadline had finished. We are hoping to fix it once ratings have finished.
If you do wish to see the content of this clip I have added a small video to the game description to show its details.
The point about being able to skip the audio was considered but we didn't have enough time to implement it. We were slammed for time to get it completed due to starting late on this jam. I think we ended up building the entire thing in a little over a week. We plan to eventually allow you to skip through clips once you have watched them the first time and also want to add a way to navigate better when there is more than once clip attached to a blood point.
Thanks for the feedback Xed.
We were able to incorporate the fixes, skippable audio, and some minor updates without too much extra effort. If you are interested in seeing the final product after the Jam, we update the game for submission to the Indiepocalypse at https://lordbundee.itch.io/fate-of-the-baychimo.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to finish the game due to my firefox tab crashing twice in the middle of play. I really like the concept, actually being forced to pay attention to the story and listen for details was fun. I'd love to see this expanded upon.
Sorry to hear about your issue. I never got a chance to test in with firefox. It does seem to work fine with chrome and edge if either is an option for you.
