You've heard of October's Inktober and November's NaNoWriMo, but now here's a month dedicated to the art of game development and design: Game Devcember!

What?

Game Devcember is a month-long game jam taking place during the entirety of the month of December, where participants work together to create games of any kind that they wish centered around a central theme.

Take a look past Game Devcembers:

- Game Devcember 2020: https://itch.io/jam/game-devcember-2020
- Game Devcember 2021: https://itch.io/jam/game-devcember-2021

Who?

Anyone is open to join the game jam! Any experience, any age, any location, any team size, any specialty, all are welcome. Additionally, participants are free to use any engine, platform, or medium to create their games. However, please be mindful of how many people can access your game - while we will accept VR, mobile, and physical games, understand that not everyone may be able to access your game.

When?

The jam will start on December 1st, 2022 (12am EST). The jam will end on January 1st, 2023 (12am EST).

All times are in Eastern Standard Time (UTC -5). Updates to the schedule will be posted in the Discord server.

Where?

This is a virtual-only jam - game jam registration and submissions will be done through itch.io, and jam discussions and announcements will be done in our community Discord server. Join the Discord Server here: Game Devcember Discord Server

What's the Theme?

The theme of Game Devcember 2022 is DÉJÀ VU!

Voting?

At the end of the game jam, we'll have a weeklong voting portion in which the community is free to play the games and vote on them! Of course, we're not using voting as a way to say which games are better than other games - we're using it as a means and incentive for people to play all your games. I will also try to play as many of your games as I can! Games will be voted on using five criterion:

  • Use of Theme
  • Gameplay
  • Creativity
  • Art
  • Sound

Jam Rules

  • Keep it kind. This is an open and friendly space to all - no harassment of any kind will be tolerated. Violators of this rule may be removed from the jam without warning.
  • Please keep game content relatively clean - no NSFW, no excessive gore or violence, etc.
  • The game must be made within the month of December. You can start planning earlier, but code and assets must be made within the month.
  • You are free to use any engine, software, or medium that you want.
  • You are free to use assets to which you have a legal right to use.
  • Updates are allowed after the game has been submitted, except for during voting.

Failure to abide by these rules may lead to removal from the Discord server and your submission being removed from the jam entirely. If you experience or notice any unacceptable behavior or have additional concerns, please contact a jam admin or Kiptoke directly on the Discord server.
