My thoughts while playing the game.
+ = I liked it
- = I didn't like it
* = Neutral/suggestion
---
+ Nice font
- Turn-in-place movement feels weird
- Seeing some spelling issues here
* Woah, surprise battle in town!
- Enemies can attack twice, and I miss an awful lot
+ Automatic counter attack is a life saver
- Shop bot moves frequently, making it hard to interact with
- Looks like literally every weapon & armor in the game is in this shop. Will I ever be able to purchase some of these? It's really overwhelming.
+ Nice choice of tile set.
- While the maps aren't horrifically huge, they are a bit on the "too big" side.
- After visiting the shop I'm not sure where to go
* Found the inn. I guess this is where I'm supposed to go?
- Not sure why I would say "no" to having a party member join. If there is something I cannot do because the member is in the party it was not communicated. If that's not the case then there's no reason for the choice menu.
* Nice tip about resting in Eve's room. Doesn't that mean paying to stay at the inn is useless though?
- Carvis says the same thing about talking to the team even when the team is right in front of him.
- "Get acquainted with the townsfolk" is pretty vague. What am I supposed to do, actually?
- Northern part of the town is very barren
- I see roads leading out of town but can't take them.
- So I'm talking to the Farm Lady after having been at the inn and she's complaining about bugs on her crops again. When I talk to the boy he just says "LAME!"
- One of the bush tiles floats over the characters
- Decided to venture out of town and ran into the kid who is a leader of the bandits. Each party member deals 0 damage and gets one-shotted by him.
* I quit the game at this point.
Summary
The lack of direction is this game's greatest weakness. It's an OK first project that looks nice but really needs to do a better job of guiding the player to the next destination so I'm not spending all my time wandering around trying to figure out what to do and getting ambushed by enemies. Making the maps tighter so I don't spend so much time just walking will go a long way, too. Finally, don't overwhelm me with shops that have every item in the game; put only the things the player needs at that particular point in the shop so I don't spend all my time trying to figure out what to buy and also give me an incentive to move to the next destination.
I hope you continue to improve your skills and keep trying!
