  • The sailing mechanics and physics feel super realistic and the stylized water looks great cel-shaded. Lots of potential here with a solid foundation of getting from island to island. Loved the wreckage in the middle cluster to give some story to the world. The night sky looks beautiful and I love being able to see the silhouettes of the other towers, but it is nearly impossible to see at night. Sometimes the map teleports you to a different spot and it can be hard to get back to the main game box --- 25/40

Firstly, I absolutely loved watching the development of this game - thanks for posting all your progress shots! It has come such a long way, and I loved that you were incorporating feedback in real time during the jam. :3 I've mentioned this before, but the physics of the water is just so smooth and seamless. I'm prone to seasickness, and never once did I get that vibe! You really mastered the physics there. I also liked the small touches you added with your own handwriting on the note and the little wi-fi signals coming out! Haha.

I think it would have been nice to include some tooltip icons in-game for controls and movement, but that's just a small thing that doesn't bother me too much! :D

Thanks for making an amazing open world game Eric! ^ㅡ ^

Thank you so much! And I agree with your feedback! I wish I made a tooltip system and just, in general, explained how to play the game in the actual game and led players through it naturally.  Thank you for playing and rating!

I thought this was a really cool game! I love the way the game looks overall (especially the water) and think it plays very well. There are some really cool features in this project that add a lot to the overall experience. Stuff like the cool 'Simon Says' mini-game and the smooth animation when picking up notes are my favorite parts. I find that even small details, like the note animation, can really help a game feel smooth and keep me playing. One thing that I definitely think could be improved is the map. I was a little bit confused about how I was supposed to read it and it was also hard to tell which direction was forward for my ship on the map. I think just adding something simple like an arrow at the top of ship marker pointing in the direction you are currently going, or a little trail that is behind your ship on the map, would be very helpful. I also really appreciate the day/night system. That's a hard thing to implement but I think you did a great job with it on this game. I do think that it gets a *little* too dark at night, so if you could make just a little brighter at night that would also be a nice improvement.

Great game, thanks for making it!

I think I'm going to end up echoing a lot of the feedback that's already in here, but I'll throw in my two cents after playing. First I love sailing through the open seas, gives me mad Sea of Thieves vibes. The dynamic day/night cycle is super cool too! Helps bring the world a live and make it feel more dynamic, although, I wish night was so dark. I am still unsure if I actually won or not, I got to the electrical plant, said everything needed to be connected, and said thanks for playing. I might have ended up missing an island. I did enjoy sailing off into the open ocean forever was I was done. Oh! The simon says puzzle was really fun with all of the sounds too.

First off, thank you! I am glad that you like sailing the open world! That was the biggest thing I was focused on. And I believe you did beat the game. There is a letter at the power tower that says you need to get a power coil, but if you already picked up the orange coil at the crash site at the rocks then it will just put it in the tower when you read the note. Maybe not the best user feedback on my part. Also agree that night is too dark. And I am glad you liked the simon says puzzle! Thank you for playing my game, and I know I already left feedback, but I really enjoyed your entry!

I'm not on a PC so I had to use the web build. I wasn't able to get all the features of the game, but I love the detail that went into the creation of the world. It's beautiful and love the water effects. The lighting is wonderful until it is night time. Then everything is pitch black.

I found one of the towers and it has a little Simon says game, which I thought would be fun! But I couldn't figure out how to interact with it. Standing on the button, pressing e, nothing worked. It didn't help that it was pitch black. I could only see the red flashing light. So maybe there was an apparatus nearby?

I waited a little while for daylight to come back--it's still pitch black in that world. Is nightfall permanent?

The camera felt very low to the ground. It felt like I was controlling a little rover-cam rather than a person walking around.

Overall beautiful idea for a game and love the visual execution!

Thank you for your feedback. Also, I am glad you found the tower! The Simon says game has little button panels on the top of the hills surrounding the tower.  That said if it's always night time that would be pretty hard to see. I did a last-minute tweak to the day-night system so it might be broken, unfortunately. I guess I never even thought about the height of the character controller. For all, I know it could be really short and I just got used to it. I will have to look into that.  Thank you again for playing my game!

I actually kept playing after I left this comment and the lights did come back on. I had just enough time to solve the Simon says puzzle, make it to the island where I read a note from Josh, and then it got dark while I was on the ocean so I just called it a day lol. I really enjoyed the experience of playing it!

nice game though for the life of me I don't understand what to do I got lost pretty much from the start until I found the map button (I get that its a Jam game but a text saying use this, this, and this wouldn't hurt)

the music is really good
the map didn't help much with direction and I noticed I started teleporting to an Island when not sure why?
the physics of the waves are cool kinda got seasick a bit from them
the day/night cycle not so much

I can't see anything :(

(I had an image here but itch isn't letting me use it??)

I can definitely see a game about exploration here maybe if you add some quests or any sort of goal system because I ran around for 15 min didn't really know what I was doing or why

hope this helps cheers

Developer

Thanks for the feedback. I agree with the map and day-night cycle. I should have left more time for polishing features like the day-night and the map system. Not exactly happy with the level of polish on this game. And there is a small main quest where you go around and activate communication beacons, but I didn't have enough time to implement a tutorial that guided you to the idea. I ended up just spawning the player facing the first beacon they need to activate for the main quest in hopes that it would get the idea across (I knew it was a bit far-fetched though). Hopefully, I can keep working on the project after the Jam and implement some of this feedback. Thank you!
