In what way does your game fit the theme?
You play as a possessed soldier of chaos and must attain the 8 arrows of that were stolen.

Controls:
Walk: WASD or Arrows
Shoot: Spacebar
Interact: E (when you see a small white circle appear)
Chaos scout: Hold left shift (in scout mode your shoot becomes a distraction tool)

(There is not a controls menu in our game so hopefully leaving this here is ok)

Did you write all the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
Yes

Loved the art and atmosphere, and whole possession-on-kill mechanic was great.

A few bits of constructive criticism.

  • The lights seemed to rotate slower than the player, causing a disconnect. As the sprite change is instant, I'd just instantly snap the light, rather than smoothly rotating it.
  • The player's health is unclear.
  • The difficulty was a little high. Perhaps checkpoints would help?
  • I wasn't entirely sold on the aiming. Perhaps mouse-aim would have been better?
  • You'll get far more reviews if you build to webGl, rather than having a download.

Overall, great job!

Liked the concept of possesion, nice game

Love the pixel art, very atmospheric. Not sure I like the shooting mechanics, which seems to be you take over what you hit. Anyway, interesting concept that I show potential.

This was a really cool game and I really liked the concept!

why is there so little reviews-

Developer

Is there anything you recommend for getting our game out there a bit more? Not many but thanks for being one of them! :D

Graphic design is epic and I like the dark atmosphere of your game. Maybe you should also include a main menu and controls right into your game, bce I discovered them just after playing on your page.

Developer

Yeah main menu is definitely on the to-do list for post jam but time restrictions stopped it unfortunately. Brilliant to hear you liked the atmosphere as well and thanks for playing!

awesome game! pixel art is extraordinary, level design is really well built and the environment is immersive and atmospheric. chain kills are extremely satisfying to pull and i dont know if its intentional or not, but getting shot and switching bodies just before the death animation reached its end was always clutch as hell. i will say, however, aiming felt really awkward. using the WASD keys to aim doesnt make a lot of sense for a top down shooter, it didnt really work for this one. plus ive faced pretty bad performance issues, if you play the game for long enough the frame rate drops astronomically and the only way to fix it was by rebooting the game. it was also tiring to redo everything with no checkpoints, especially considering how slow the character is. however, the amazing atmosphere, pixel art and cool concept had me trying again and again despite the frustrations. incredible work!

Developer

Yess it's brilliant to have a review like this so really thank you for taking the time to play and write it! Glad you enjoyed the pixel art and level as well, they definitely took a long time to make and it's great it felt immersive! Really awesome that you discovered the mechanic of possessing right before death as well, it wasn't intentional at first but felt really fun in game; happy accidents. Unfortunately the aim was limited to 8 directions due to not wanting to draw loads of different pixel art animations for every angle. Would you prefer still 8 directional aim but with the mouse or just have full aiming in spite of pixel art limitations? Also there were unfortunately some bugs with respawning and not deleting the old music but then adding a new layer so it turned into a laggy/chaotic mess, frustrating that it's only a couple lines of code to fix and it was past the deadline but I guess should've seen it earlier. We were also thinking of having different modes for having/disabling checkpoints so its really useful to hear thanks as we were a bit split on it. Thanks again for playing and for the feedback!

This is such an incredible concept!

Though I can't get past the first few soldier, this looks, feels and plays awesome! The game is very unique and the visuals are absolutely stunning!

Developer

That's brilliant you enjoyed the gameplay, it's still a bit buggy and was took a while to implement so really good to hear you had fun! Thanks :D

The concept, the art and the background music are really cool. But when I first launched the game I had some problems figuring out the controls. And in the first room it was not clear how to open the dialogue box of the computer. If you could add some menus and a simple tutorial type room then I can see myself playing this game again and again and again. The game is really fun and the possession of other soldiers is also a pretty cool idea.

Thanks for taking the time to play and leave a review, also really glad you enjoyed it! Unfortunately time restrictions got us so the menu and all the controls had to be left on the itch page instead but as you said it would be really helpful in game. Hopefully can add some changes after the rating period ends :D
