In what way does your game fit the theme?
Our game is about playing chaotic free jazz in a strange jazz club.

Did you write all the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
Yes, except for the audio clips made by my teammate Adam Saunders and some royalty-free audio clips.

very cool idea, more polish or a more gradual explanation might make this a bit easier to play. well done!

Developer

Thank you! Will do!

love this, the forth wall break, game play and the mechanics of your trumpet being broken and of course the sounds and music, although the "thanks for playing" didn't appear when curtains close until I start clicking and the main menu button also didn't work

awesome game :D

Developer

Thank you very much for the feedback! The end scene was made 30 minutes before the jam's end, and I'm not the proudest of it lol. You are the first one to mention the fourth wall break, by the way! I always try to put one in my games. I'm glad that you had a fun time!

This is a really cool game. Great concept as well. The main problem was that it was a bit confusing what the objective was, and what the numbers on the right side meant, I just always played something random and I got high marks, but following those numbers I got low marks. So I think it is supposed to be we play something different and chaotic, but we can just play anything random and we would be playing something different because there are a lot of permutations of 7 different notes. So it was just kinda confusing. But this game is very innovative and the audio is amazing, good job!

Would also appreciate it if you checked out our game, we still need a few more ratings, thanks!

You've got the hang of it yea. Basically, the idea is that the number on the top left is the most important one. It tells you how many notes can be in one combination. Let's say this number is 2, then when you play 1234 we will look at this as the following combination of 12, 23, 34, simply said we split it into pairs.  When you play 5'34'1 next you'll lose points because you have already played pair 34 previously. This number will get larger as the number of maximum notes increases as it would be more difficult for the audience to understand that you have repeated something when you play something very long.  Thank you for the feedback! I hope you had lots of fun playing!

Will check out your game, of course, no problem!

A game about JAZZ and yet you somehow managed to fit in the chaos theme pretty well. Astounding work!

Thank you very much! I'm very happy that you like it!

The last one, i didn't look at my keyboard lol. Your idea of avoiding repetition was really good. Nice game.

Developer

I made the last level just fun so the player can jazz it all out at the end. Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

The most chatic it got for me was at the end, when I was hammering out a whole bunch of notes before the timer ran out! Lotta fun! The next step would be to somehow line the notes up to a good rhythm.

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I'm glad you really had fun and experienced the chaos! That's a good suggestion. Thanks!

A jazz game? where is the chaos?

Was nice making it play though

Developer(+1)

By making the player play different combinations of notes we ignore the repetition of patterns, which is common in music and thus we create something that sounds fully improvised and some can even say chaotic. Thanks! I'm glad you had fun!

More harmonic than chaotic :)

It's great! it just doesn't fit the theme all that well...

Hi! Cool game I liked the addition of the music in your theme game (: The only thing I couldn´t figure out was why the crowd was getting angry at me even though I played different patterns but besides that, it´s a nice work

Well done.

Also, check out our game, it would mean a lot

You should be on the lookout for the number in the top left. This tells you how big a combination can be before the audience notices you are repeating something. Let's say that number is 2 then 1234 would be 12, 23, 34, and if you then do 5126, you repeat 12 in the middle, for example. It is not the whole line of notes that you shouldn't repeat, but the little pairs.

I'm glad you liked it! Thank you!

Yes, I will check out your game. It looks fun.

The audio is amazing! Although I didn't really understand the game, it felt nice just playing simple music by pressing buttons. Also, I really like that you introduced the tutorial like a little story.

Developer

Thank you! The point is not to repeat your musical patterns because that is boring(for this exquisite audience at least) and this audience doesn't like boring, it wants something crazy and different. I'm glad you enjoyed the game and the tutorial!

I really enjoyed playing this game! Felt very fun, and kept me hooked between each song, rather than dropping off as the game gets lengthier. Great job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I'm glad it was a fun experience!

I love then games make music the focal point! I wish there could have been a rhythm aspect to the game too, but what you did in the jam time is impressive! I love the art style too!

Developer

Thank you very much! We are glad you liked it and thanks for the suggestion!

0/10 can't play the lick

All jokes aside really nice game, also liked the tutorial section.

Developer

Thank you! Hmm, we'll look into that. The next update should be called "Prepare For The Lick".

Very, very cool graphics and atmosphere, page design, instructions design. A cool concept in itself - jazz and chaos, very interesting

Thank you very much!

Awesome Art and UI! Cool idea! Perfect sound and music! congrats!

Developer

Thank you very much!

Played A Cruel Angel's Thesis and the crowd gave me max scores, so you know it's a good game.
Jokes aside, it's definitely a unique and fun concept, the sprites are all nicely done, but as someone already mentioned, the scene itself feels too static, but that doesn't make it any less fun. Good job!

Developer(+1)

Wait you did that? That's awesome! I'm glad you enjoyed it and thanks!

Cool game! interesting concept and good execution. good job!

This is a super cool concept for a game. I really liked both the sound and the graphics, they both seemed very polished. Speeding up the intro dialogue a little would be good, as I thought it took a little too long to scroll, but I did like the dialogue itself. I think maybe some more visual feedback after patterns could be cool, the scene feels a little static while playing, maybe either the people in the club having reactions themselves (not just the mood indicators) or some note effects while playing could help liven things up. I don’t think this is a big deal though and had a lot of fun playing it, the timer also adds an interesting challenge that was more apparent with the longer segments.

Developer(+1)

I'm very happy that you had fun with our game! In the intro, if you spam the next button the text will go faster. I had plans to animate them in the beginning, but we know how it is with game jams. However, I'll do it after the jam. Thanks for the suggestions!

Submitted(+1)

I’ll definitely play your game again with the update afterwards!

Developer

Thanks!

TBH I just had a lot of fun improvising and jamming to the music
