Been meaning to test this out for a while - think this one's got real potential (and not only bc of the stellar pixelart tiddies tbh)

I had fun playing the first mission, it's very easy but then again it's level 1 so I can't hold that as a negative.. beam goes brrrr

- The zoomed out portion which introduces the miniboss feels a bit boring since the cutscene is mediumlength, you can move during it but there's nothing to do... Maybe spawn in some extra enemies while the dialogue plays? Shmup levels shouldn't really have too much dead time.

- Really needs some extra SFX in there! Most of the weapons being silent atm feels super weird.

- Miniboss has great design, you can focus the lower portion to get rid of the grenades, the sword sweep requires you to hug the ceiling, it's good stuff.

- Focusing should probably slow the player character more, it's still possible to overshoot when dodging.. Regular unfocused speed feels fine to me. (Is beam really slowing you down as mentioned in the database? I barely felt the difference.)

- I think the hitbox should be always visible when focusing touhou-style, but it's not too hard to memorize that it's basically the cleavage of the player sprite.

UI is super fucked for me in the first mission but not in the tutorial/practice room, wonder if it's because I'm running at 150% scaling? Unity UI can be incredibly annoying to get pixel-perfect visuals with so I share the pain..

Hitting alt-enter to get out and back into fullscreen makes it worse:

I recorded the video of your game again. You can find it at https://mega.nz/folder/WQ91HBxL#X4-j8Mj7H30Ai3aevWFEmA

GIGA based WebCough as usual.

I really felt that "NO!!" when you died to the rival on your first attempt. This is all great feedback and I'll make sure to add some of the stuff you point out in the video. I'm really glad you enjoyed the demo so far. I'll be checking Goblin Resort on the weekend and hopefully make a recording like last time :D

 Cheers!

Yeah, she got me good. Sorry if my audio levels are bad.

Sweet, I look forward to that. I also ended up recording my own game, so people can check it out

Jokes on you, I already saw that video :^)

I decided to try this game because I'm a casual enjoyed of shooters. By this I mean I can usually beat them, but I don't try to 1CC them or anything.

In my opinion movement needs to be a little bit slower at the start so it's easier to move short distances. Placing the character near the edges of the screen seems to be a formula for getting stuck unable to move for several seconds.

Difficulty is really low so it's not really needed, but the expectation is that these games have really precise movement. On a similar note, I think the slow down skill may not slow down your character as much as the enemies? I'm not completely sure.

The settings menu is under construction so I would like to suggest an option to keep the hitbox permanently visible and the ability to either remap controls or some alternative controls schemes. I personally like having all of the possible actions as a single row of buttons on the keyboard. Something like ZXCV with the arrows or HJKL with WASD tends to work fine for me.

Finally, I think your character sprites are detailed and well animated and you deserved praise for that. Good job.

Developer

Hey! Thanks a lot for the feedback, there's some stuff I'm going to write down and implement for sure.

You're right about the slow motion. In this case, I actually increase Angel's movement speed while in slowed time,  so she moves almost like normal speed. I'm gonna add the option to always show the hitbox and experiment with slower moving speed.

Just one question, did you try the most recent build? and if so, was it Linux? I thought I had already patched the stuck bug :^(

Submitted

I'm afraid it was the most recent Windows build.

I actually downloaded the game again just now to test it out and I managed to get stuck to the leftmost side of the screen instead. It seems to happen specially often after the screen zooms in again.

Also, you can go off-screen in the tutorial.

Developer

Ahhh fudge. Thanks for the reply!  I've got some clamping code to iron again (^:

  • The "Loading" text doesn't scale properly to 16:10 and stays on screen after loading the detention area.
  • Does this game even need a loading screen?
  • The detention area, shop, and database all have the back button in different corners and with different labels.
  • The UI needs to be keyboard-navigable since the mouse isn't used during gameplay.
  • RMB should go back in menus.
  • The pause menu animations are way too slow.
  • Tried turning down the music volume since the sound effects were barely audible over it, and it muted the music entirely until I restarted the level. New volume doesn't apply until you open the settings again.
  • The character gets stuck when moving diagonally against the edges of the screen. Going over the HUD got me stuck entirely twice while fighting the miniboss, and only then.
  • The HUD should fade out when you're near it.
  • The player's sprite and projectiles should be drawn under enemy projectiles.
  • Reduce movement speed a bit more during slow motion to make it easier to make small adjustments and make it show your hitbox. The hitbox being shown at the start also needs to be more visible and last longer. It took me a while to notice it.
  • Music for the miniboss kept going after beating it. Went back to normal after dying.
  • Typewriter text is too slow to keep up with the voice lines.
  • Make boss intros skippable.
  • There doesn't seem to be any way to replay the level. It just puts me back right before the boss.
  • You can use the homing missiles during dialogue and damage the boss.
  • Too easy.
  • You can't close the game from the main menu except with Alt+F4.
Developer

This is exactly the reason why I love DD! That's amazing feedback mate.

I agree with a lot of your points and will make big adjustments based on those. Thanks again for playing!

* Something I couldn't figure out the quit game option but this was still fun.

* I died 3 times at the boss of the first level but I still beat her and got an S rank.

* I also saw some concept art and the detention area.

Overall, fun experience with really good visuals.

Looking good as always. Nice to have a tutorial, I know that would have helped me a lot back when I first tried it.

I like the music, but it needs to be balanced better for when characters are talking.

Gonna echo that the zoomed-out section feels weird. I also ran into the bug where you get stuck in the upper left corner a lot - most frustratingly when I was fighting the fort after killing all the enemies except one that couldn't hit me, so I couldn't even die.

Coming along nicely, I think you'll be pretty successful If you get this game to market for obvious reasons. The main menu is quite nice, and the gameplay is solid. Good progress overall! Although that weird zoomed out part was odd.

Played through the entire demo and it was great, took me some time though, got filtered pretty hard by the bigass chainsaw boat. After looking through the database I really want you to make a comic about these guys, if you ever do a kickstarter, consider doing so as a stretch goal. Just as other people have reported you can consistently get stuck in the corner by the healthbar.

I only have one pointer, you can slow down during the bossintros which I would remove.

Also sorry to inform you that the final demoboss is now officially mygirl.tm and as such you cannot marry her.

Got stuck at the top here, no idea what caused it, but I can't move out of that spot:

The bullets I shot also stopped making any sounds after a while (when you get at the four tuber girls I think). I was using the multi-shot.

I assume that the detention part isn't in yet? At least it wasn't clear to me what to do there.

Also, when using ESC to pause, pressing resume doesn't do anything. Pressing ESC again works.

Anyway, I like the concept of the game. Can't go wrong with a big tits shooter.

Edit: On closer inspection, it just freezes your position when starting that part of the mission regardless.

Developer

Thanks for playing madodev!

I saw that bug happen to me while developing and it's a dumb issue with clamping the X,Y position of the player to the bounding box for movement which I haven't ironed out. I was hoping it wasn't going to show up a lot but I think I gotta fix it ASAP.

The detention and interrogation are going to be the next things in queue for development. We plan to make it like some kind of interactive reward/progress thing. PD: Ero dungeos looks amazing.

Watching the stream but I will give this a thorough look tomorrow.
