Overall not a bad game. Sounds design was good, and the character movement was a little janky but otherwise fine.

What a beautiful, heartbreaking little game this is. What started as a seemingly simple farm sim turned into such a moving story where my routine switched from starting to care for crops in act 1 to checking the tree first thing in the morning in act 2 and above... Outstanding jam entry, I really loved it so much. Here's my in-depth review:

- Graphics wise, the game was gorgeous, I really loved the evolution of the characters over time, the color palette and the environment which really carried the heavy tone of the war. Really fantastic all aboard, perhaps just the walking animation could have used a bit of extra work, but otherwise really amazing work here. I especially loved the evolution of the tree and shop areas. There are a few minor bugs where a blank canvas appears when there is no item to display.

- Mood wise, I was really transported into the character and his relationships with the other folks as they each go through their way of dealing with the war. Like the character, I found myself caring for the crops out of reflex in order to not think about what could happen the next day. Each character has a rich story and personality, and you ended up knowing about what they cared about. One of the key and most powerful moment for me in the game was when, and after a long series of days where seeing a bird meant reading a letter, I saw the bird with nothing in its beak - and I knew something was wrong with the father at war... That was such a great delivery.

- Gameplay wise, the farm sim part of the game felt a bit tedious and repetitive. This wasn't a bad thing but I wish I had to think a bit more about what I needed to plant and grow. Somehow maybe have a bit more control over how I can affect people positively or negatively thoughout the conflict.

Overall, this game was such an amazing feat for 2 weeks of work. I really loved every minute of it, including of course the ending which was beautiful as well, seeing new trees being planted. Somehow life always finds a way... It's a beautiful message

Cheers
