This was a really fun and creative golfing game! Though poorly explained, the controls were unique and fun when I understood them. The 2d top-down perspective is very different from most golf games, but when you are very zoomed out the ball is hard to see. Maybe a large colored ring around the ball would help.

Developer

Thanks for playing. Yes, good point about the golf ball. I thought about making it bigger (or rather just keeping it's size unchanged when zooming out), but a colored ring or other marker could work as well. I'll look into that once the voting period is over.

I played alone but looks like a great game to play with friends. Good Game.

Developer

Thanks for trying it out. I had originally planned to add a simple AI for the second player, so that you can play solo as well, but I did not get around to it during the jam. (Also I realized that such an AI is quite tricky to get right when it comes to aiming.)

Interesting idea.

I was confused for a while when I clicked every card and it stayed dark (I later realised that I just had to drag the view further away to be able to use it).

Developer

Thanks for trying it out. Yes, I definitely need to explain this a bit better in the UI, either by adding little tutorial tooltips for first time players or by just making it more obvious visually that you can (and should ) zoom out.

Phew, you should document the controls somewhere. It reminds me of old retro golf games from the 80s - nice.

It seems there's a fair bit of luck involved, as you can not really control more than what golf club to use and where "generally" it aims for.

Thanks for trying the game. You are right about the controls. I wanted to add an instruction page or something like that, but I just ran out of time. You are right about the luck aspect as well, but to a point it is what makes the game feel like real golf. But I will try to add some kind of skill element to it (if I decide to keep working on it at all ... I haven't made up my mind about that yet). Maybe give the player a few more decisions to take than just the selection of the club.

Good concept! Confusing a bit at first. The controls need a bit of work and the UI more feedback.

Also, it crashed in the browser with memory overflow error.

Developer

Thanks for trying it out. You are definitely right about the UI needing more work. I just ran out of time. About the crash, can you give me some detail on when it happened? What browser did you use?

I really like the idea of this! I wonder if it just needs for there to be an element of skill in actually hitting the shot to avoid badly aimed shots that aren't your own fault. I do understand that it's meant as more of a card game than a skill game, though.
The interface could use a tiny bit of polish: I accidentally took a shot a couple of times when I was just scrolling around.
I've only played against myself, unfortunately, but can see the potential this has. Great entry!

Developer

Thanks for trying it out and for your feedback. I totally agree with the interface needing more polish (and yes, the accidentally taking a shot thing is very real, happened to me  few times as well). I just ran out of time during the jam. I thought about the element of skill thing today. I think I will try to introduce more cards (not just for the clubs, but also for what kind of shot you want to hit for example), so that finding the best possible shot for a situation is a bit more complex. I want to keep the card game aspect and make it stronger, rather than coming up with a physical aiming/shot making mechanism (simply because I know many golf games and that part is always crap, in my opinion).
