Eldwood rated The Order of the Thorne: The King's Challenge

Eldwood rated a game 4 years ago
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Graphically, this game resembles a VGA-era Sierra adventure game.  I'm not really a fan of that style.  Low-res pixel art is among my favorite art styles, but low-res downscaled paintings just look ugly when compared to the high-res originals.  Visually, I much prefer the late EGA-era games like King's Quest IV, or the SVGA-era games like King's Quest VII, or even the earlier EGA-era games like King's Quest II and III.

In terms of story and gameplay, however, this game more strongly resembles King's Quest I.  Which is to say that it's short and weak, although it does have a certain old-school indie charm.  The biggest problem is that the climax just doesn't feel very climactic because nothing you do in the game seems to thematically lead up to it.
