Connorses rated Roguelight

Connorses rated a game 4 years ago
A downloadable game for Windows and macOS.

Roguelight taught me things about procedural game design and I highly recommend trying it if you're a game developer

I came back to this game after a while because it stuck in my memory. The arrows have the dual purpose of providing light, and killing enemies. Light is probably the most important thing to you, though. You can draw your bow and use the dwindling ring of light from the arrow to navigate the dungeon and hope that you'll find extra ammo. If you run out, you're walking around blind bumping into enemies and spikes. In spite of the simplicity, the game is incredibly engaging. There's something truly clever in the procedural generation that is capable of always generating paths you can navigate even with your tiny ring of light. You're always making decisions: Should I let go of an arrow to kill an enemy or just avoid the enemy? Should I shoot one arrow at low speed so it drops down this hole to tell me if I can safely fall? Is it worthwhile to light this lantern?
