A beautiful little Indie concept game that sees you explore a dark and mysterious world following the music. The environments are dark, foreboding but at the same time hauntingly beautiful and I found myself pausing to take screenshots throughout my journey. The game's wonderful audio design is so strong at times you can close your eyes and simply follow the sounds to your destination, uncovering brooding churches or ancient relics that seem to absorb the light around them.
At times however the darkness can be a little too overwhelming and I found myself experiencing eye-strain in certain portions of the map attempting to peer through the gloom. I assume the almost pitch black areas were by design but it's something to consider when at times it can verge on making the player uncomfortable. Other than this small gripe I thoroughly enjoyed Sanctuary and would love to see it fleshed out even more. I cannot tell you how refreshing it is to play a game like this with an end-game, it just feels so much more satisfying to play these experimental projects knowing you've experienced what was intended.
TL:DR version - a hypnotising, beautiful exploration game with fantastic sound design and arresting visuals. Proteus meets Alan Wake.
