mirrage rated BIT RAT : Singularity

mirrage rated a game 4 years ago
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Super fun puzzle game! The mechanics are surprisingly deep beyond the standard "move the pipes so that the water will flow" style. Managing the power generators and using people to do it makes the later puzzles real head-scratchers, and it's super satisfying to slowly piece things together. They're really creative.

But beyond the gameplay, the tone, the style, the story—everything is just stellar! The art is simple yet still really detailed. I particularly loved the outro cinematic with the computer flashing in Vojislav's eyes. On the whole, the environments are really fleshed out, and the people's different animations (drinking coffee, smoking, typing, etc.) give the game a ton of personality and a solid sense of realism. Love watching the rats scurry around, too. ^_^ The music is really cool as well. The simple 8-bit/chiptune/whatever compositions complement the dark, industrial, cyberpunky, corporate tech lab perfectly. Watching the story unfold was really intriguing and provided an even stronger motivation for cracking the trickier puzzles. It's told in a pretty classic way of email logs and such, but it's still done really well.

Overall I really loved this game, and I'm beyond excited for whatever else bucket drum cooks up for us next!
