Bee rated Retrace

A downloadable game for Windows.

Gorgeous game. Despite being as short as it is, you really feel and understand the characters right away. I love love games that play with the fourth wall / "meta" and this one is definitely an interesting look at it. The vibe I got was similar to playing 999, but with Zero as the player character. I loved the story, and while the fact that you Had to keep letting people die in order to find the way out was painful, it was such an interesting way to keep going. The art is gorgeous, both sprites and pixels. I loved the CGs for the endings as well.

I will say a few of the puzzles gave me a hard time, but I only had to consult a walkthrough once (for the "where's Owen" puzzle despite it being right there in my face) which is honestly pretty good for me, since I'm not too great at puzzles (admittedly, I brute-forced Lucas's as well). I think the medium of being able to start over, with previous knowledge, made it less frustrating to search for answers.

I don't know if this is available in other places, or extras I might have missed, but I would have liked to know why Claire and the demon were so fixated on Freya and her friends in the first place. Just a quick scene in the main game would have been nice.

**EDIT HERE to say I read A Heartfelt Confession for the above. I still think some of it should have gone into the original at least as side mentions, but I do appreciate the lore as well!

Still, I would say this game is a new favorite of mine, and is highly recommended!
