Agouro is a storygame where players create a prophecy and then vie for who will fulfill it - some will grow, changing themselves and the world while others suffer and fail in the process.
Some of the cool stuff about Agouro based on my reading:
1. It can be played with a GM or without one.
2. Before you start, you create the world by drawing cards and answering some prompts. It's easy and fast but allows for each game to start out in a unique way.
3. The scenes are resolved with playing cards in a simple but tactical way. So even though it's a story game, there is a tactical side about thinking about the other players' cards. But even if you play to win, you must be ready to lose and embrace tragedy. That is part of the fun.
4. The player who "wins" the scene will receive the scene's fortune card and the player with the highest fortune at the end of the game gets to narrate how they change the world.
5. After every scene, the characters and the world can change and grow so the fiction is always dynamic and there's lots of room for making a big dramatic story.
Agouro is written like a ritual. The character playbooks are inspired by the tarot. The game is about prophecy. All of this combines to make a game that feels mythic or like a fairy tale . I'm definitely looking forward to playing it!
