This game allows you to foreground the mechs in a way that artistically blends narrative with crunch. Some of this is down to the basic Forged in the Dark foundation on which Beam Saber is built, but by giving each player a vehicle, in many ways a second body, to manage, that "narrative crunch" is opened up and expanded.

Beam Saber is friendly enough to accommodate existing or original settings, but don't rule out the well-realized setting that comes with the book. Ramsay designed a terrific, critical world and populated it with dynamic individuals and organizations.
