I hope will read this with an open mind as it poses a useful question: "what is your game about -and a result- what mechanics/system do you need for your game?" It doesn't offer answer to either of these questions but instead a process of building the game together through play. For many "tables" this process might be a more useful exercise than what often happens - someone in the group takes a popular system, strips it bare, rebuilds it, and slaps back on the table but without any explanation/documentation of the intentional design choices that were made along the way.
