Rogue Sentry has a little story, a little style, a little ambition, and a little surprise for people who put in the time. It game gives the shmup+metroidvania a solid attempt. The basic controls and gameplay are good, but the variety of challenges, clarity of level design, and smoothness of play have many rough spots.
For example, if you beat a boss, the player should be invincible or the boss's attacks should be destroyed. This is especially true if you shake the screen and ESPECIALLY true if all the graphics in the game are 1 bit anyway. Little hang up like this result in unfair/cheap deaths. Progression back to where you died rubs in a sore spot for the game.
