When I first downloaded the demo I didn't even remember to launch the game. So when after a longer while I decided to play it, not really remembering the story of the title, I was stunned.
Not only is it possibly one of the best written VNs I've ever played (and trust me I've played dozens of those) but it is also more immersive than other titles of similar lore and theme. I must admit, from the very start to the very end of the demo I could hear my heart pounding in my chest. The characters have colorful personalities, stories to tell and secrets to discover, they are alive. Not to mention just how visually appealing they are, how nicely the colors mingle with their clothing style, foreshadowing nationality diversity and personality. What I liked a lot was also the possibility to shape my character behavior and see how it affects the world around me. I definitely had a very Dragon Age feel and mind you that's one of my favorite games ever. I didn't even know the author took inspiration from two Bioware titles, not until I got back here to review the Queen's Crown. And thank the heavens. This game is brilliant and makes me want to play it without stopping, especially thanks to the glorious writing and being able to have influence on the gameplay. It's what I look for in games. The plot of this title is very much to my liking as well, even though I'm usually not a fan of royal family kind of theme.
One thing I did find a bit off, however, that being the background design, some typography errors and resolution of the sprites. In some cases the font was pixelated, same as certain characters. Also, the background seemed to have too bright-colored tones, drawing attention away from the characters and paining my eyes quite a bit. I was also unable to access the option menu during my gameplay, it's only accessible from the main menu and some might find it uncomfortable. None of these can't be fixed in the final game however, that's why my rating is still 5 stars, since everything else is really well-developed.
I smile at the thought of being able to play it this winter. It's a long wait, but I'm sure it will be worth it. Knowing how hard can developing a game be, I offer my full support. Developers, don't ever give up! Your game is splendid and you have my word that I will play the full version.
PS I honestly made the account on itch.io just so that I could let everyone know how I love and fangirl over Queen's Crown. Spreading all the love! It is most definitely deserved.
